Stones of testimony, part 8

June 26, 2011

I’ve found eight stones of testimony. We will be looking at them in chronological sequence and comparing them to the eight ascents and descents of Moses on Mt. Sinai and the eight resurrections.–JW

1 Samuel 7:1-14 Deliverance from the Philistines
Place: Between Mizpah (outlook, watchtower) and Shen (the tooth, peak). Mizpah is the place where Jacob and Laban parted in Mt. Gilead.
Name given to stone: Ebenezer (stone of help)
Anointing: First, the sons of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth and served the LORD alone. They drew water and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted. Samuel made a burnt offering of a lamb.
Declaration: Now Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, and the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day against the Philistines and confused them, so that they were routed before Israel. . . .
Then Samuel took a stone . . . and named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the LORD has helped us.”

Moses’ ascent—second forty days on the mount (Ex 34:1-28, Dt 10:10) and descent (Ex 34:29)
Paul revives Eutychus (Acts 20:7-12)

Exodus 34:10
Then the LORD said: “I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the LORD, will do for you.

Theme: Proclamation of God’s name. Covenant.
Dominant posture: God penetrates

It was on Moses’ eighth descent that his face shone. The resurrection of Eutychus takes place in Troas during an all-night preaching and teaching. Troas means “penetrated.”

Psalm 121
I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.

Our Father in heaven,
You are Israel’s help, not political treaties. You are Israel’s keeper, not military technology. At the name of Your Son Jesus, all sun and moon religious idols must bow their knee. Preserve the nation of Israel from all evil.
We cry out for the preservation of their souls. Have mercy, Lord. Have mercy. Amen.

Exodus 26:7 New King James Version
“You shall also make curtains of goats’ hair, to be a tent over the tabernacle. You shall make eleven curtains.

The goat hair is spun into strands which are then woven togther forming panels. The goat hair tent is unique in that it is perfectly suited for the desert regions of the Near East. Like any other cloth, there is space between the hair fabric. Light coming through the black roof appears as stars in the night sky. When the hair fibers get wet from the rains, the fibers expand, forming a watertight roof.

May the prayers for our nation in 2011 be like a tent over our covenant with You. Amen.
