Philippians 4:1-13

June 30, 2011

Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved. (Philippians 4:1)
Lord Jesus, help each of us know in our hearts that we are beloved by you.

I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. (Philippians 4:2)
Holy Spirit, help each of us know our responsibility for making peace within the Body of Christ.

And I urge you also, true companion, help these women who labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life. (Philippians 4:3)
Father, bless the Sisters of St. Mary and the Daughters of the King in their ministry of prayer and intercession for the diocese. Raise up many more vocations to this life of prayer and intercession.

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! (Philippians 4:4)
Father, help each of us daily make this choice.

      A word received 8/12/09: Rejoice!

Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. (Philippians 4:5)
Jesus, thank you for standing by us; help us have your gentleness and compassion for one another.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; (Philippians 4:6)
Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on his faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and he shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; do not fret — it only causes harm. (Psalm 37:18 )

and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
Father, thank you for the peace you give us — help us receive it and rest in your arms.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things. (Philippians 4:8 )
Holy Spirit, give us grace to restrict what we view on TV or the Web.

The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:9)
Jesus, help us put into practice the things you have been teaching us. Thank you.

But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity. Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:10-13)
Holy Spirit, help us reach out to our brothers and sisters with your love and compassion. Help us learn to be content with what you supply.

A word received: Pray without ceasing.
