River Jordan

Mark 1:9-11 (ESV)
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

O you waters that carried the blessing of Balaam and stood in a heap for the passage of the children of Israel, you happy waters, clap your hands. Clap that you bathed our precious Lord and heard His voice.
Clap that the Lord has done marvelous things. Clap that he has made known His salvation. Clap that He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations. Clap that He has remembered His steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. Clap that all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God!
Clap, O Jordan River! Clap that we have entered our Promised Land. A standing ovation for the establishment of God’s kngdom on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

Mark 1:7-11

January 8, 2012

And he preached, saying, “There comes one after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.” (Mark 1:7)
Holy Spirit, please give us the humility to acknowledge Jesus’ Lordship in all situations in our lives.

“I indeed baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” (Mark 1:8 )
Jesus, please baptize us anew with your Holy Spirit. Let the river of your Spirit flow through our parish and the Diocese of Albany.

It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. (Mark 1:9)
Jesus, thank you for fulfilling all the righteousness your Father asked of you.

And immediately, coming up from the water, he saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove. (Mark 1:10)
Holy Spirit, thank you for coming on Jesus and filling him with your presence and power without limit.

Then a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Mark 1:11)
Father, please help us to love Jesus as you do and walk in his footsteps. Thank you.

The White House

January 8, 2012

Dear Father,
I acknowledge the sins of my ancestors and my own sins in the USA. We persecuted the Native Americans and stole their land. We persecuted African slaves and stole their freedom. We warred against one another. We have oppressed other nations through military, trade, and financial means. Our greed is great. Have mercy, Lord. Have mercy.
I pray that all who work and live in the White House will be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth: There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men. Christ Jesus gave himself as a ransom for the United States of America.
Christ Jesus is the Truth. We speak the name of Christ Jesus over the Executive Residence, West Wing, Cabinet Room, Roosevelt Room, East Wing, and the Old Executive Office Building, especially the executive offices of the President Obama and Vice President Biden.
Truth to all six floors! Truth to the grounds! Truth to the press corps! Truth! Truth! Truth!
