Human trafficking

January 11, 2012

Today is Human Trafficking Awareness Day. There are 27 million slaves in the world.

James 5:1,4 (New Living Translation)
Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you. . . . For listen! Hear the cries of the field workers whom you have cheated of their pay. The wages you held back cry out against you. The cries of those who harvest your fields have reached the ears of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Lord Jesus,
You are the door to freedom for the enslaved around the world. May they open their hearts to You and find themselves in the spaciousness of Your presence, away from the strife of tongues and the hand of the enemy.
O Lamb of God, You have laid down Your life for the poor and oppressed.
O Door of Hope, open a portal in the heavens over them.
O Strong Deliverer, ride forth and rescue Your children from enemies that steal, kill, and destroy.
O Good Shepherd, come that they may have life and have it more abundantly.
Come, Lord Jesus. Come! Amen.
Psalm 31, John 10

John 1:29-39

January 11, 2012

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29)
      Jesus, take away my sin.

This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.'” (John 1:30)
Holy Spirit, help me to give preference to Jesus in all parts of my life.

“I did not know him; but that he should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.” (John 1:31)
Father, we pray that whatever ministry you give us to do will reveal Jesus to the world.

And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and he remained upon him.” (John 1:32)
Jesus, help me bear witness to the work of your Holy Spirit.

“I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'” (John 1:33)
Father, as you did with John, help us to recognize the work you are doing now through Jesus.

“And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.” (John 1:34)
Holy Spirit, help us testify faithfully and effectively that Jesus is the Son of God.

Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. And looking at Jesus as he walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!” (John 1:35-36)
Jesus, you are the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. (John 1:37)
Holy Spirit, help us to be disciples who follow Jesus.

Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are you staying?” (John 1:38 )
Jesus, help us seek out all that you have for us.

He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with him that day (now it was about the tenth hour) . (John 1:39)

A word received: Pray for my little ones who are being destroyed by the sin of others. Pray for repentance for the drug dealers and the prostitutes and their pimps. Pray for the youth who are caught up in gangs that destroy them.
