A Prayer for the World – Part 1 (Asking for God’s help and love as we intercede)

The central element of the Global Day of Prayer gatherings is a “Prayer for the World” which is to be prayed aloud in unison by all present.  It has been translated into multiple languages.

The prayer is in a responsive litany format with seven separate sections.  Over the coming week, I will be posting consecutive sections here.  I recognize that each section is not meant to be a “stand-alone prayer” but I think breaking down the prayer section by section allows for us to truly reflect on what we’re praying.

This section of the prayer reminds of us of whom we’re praying to – Almighty God the Creator and ruler of all and to whose authority we submit, and whom we aim to glorify in our prayer.  It continues with a plea for the Lord to help us in our intercession and to fill us with His love for the lost:

Almighty God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

We gather with believers all over the world,

to glorify You as Creator of heaven and earth.

You alone are holy and righteous.

We submit to Your authority.

We praise and adore You alone.

Father, we honour You

Lord Jesus Christ, we honour You

   Holy Spirit, we honour You

Our Father in heaven,

Thank You for loving the world so much

that You gave Your only Son, Jesus Christ,

to die on the cross for our sins

so that we could be reconciled to You.

Fill us with your love as we faithfully intercede for the lost,

the hopeless, the helpless and the world.

Thank You Father, for adopting us into Your family.

The full prayer is here.
