Matthew 9:18-26 and Sunday School Lesson

While he spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.” (Matthew 9:18 )
Jesus, come lay your hand on every member of our families — especially those who are spiritually dead.

So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did his disciples. (Matthew 9:19)
Jesus, thank you for your willingness to come into our lives. Send your disciples into our lives and our families’ lives.

And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of his garment. (Matthew 9:20)
Holy Spirit, move the hearts of all those women who have menstrual problems to reach out and touch Jesus.

For she said to herself, “If only I may touch his garment, I shall be made well.” (Matthew 9:21)
Father, we trust that all those who reach out to Jesus in faith will find healing.

But Jesus turned around, and when he saw her he said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour. (Matthew 9:22)
Jesus, thank you for those words of encouragement that you speak to us and the healing you bring us.

When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, (Matthew 9:23)
Jesus, there is often so much noise and confusion in our lives and in our homes — bring your peac into our homes.

He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed him. (Matthew 9:24)
Holy Spirit, please help each of us overcome ridicule as Jesus did and go forward in faith to heal and proclaim the good news of the kingdom.

But when the crowd was put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. (Matthew 9:25)
Jesus, take us and every member of our families by the hand so that we may arise to new life in you. Please wake your sleeping church that appears dead.

And the report of this went out into all that land. (Matthew 9:26)
Father, let the report of what Jesus is doing among us go far and wide. Thank you.

A word received: Come to me with thanksgiving.
