Athanasian Creed and the Lion of Judah

July 24, 2012

An excerpt from the Athanasian Creed interposed with scriptures:

We believe and confess; that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God and Man; God, of the Essence of the Father; begotten before the worlds; and Man, of the Essence of his Mother, born in the world.

Revelation 19:10b (NIV)
Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”

Perfect God; and perfect Man, of a reasonable soul and human flesh subsisting. Equal to the Father, as touching his Godhead; and inferior to the Father as touching his Manhood. Who although he is God and Man; yet he is not two, but one Christ. One; not by conversion of the Godhead into flesh; but by assumption of the Manhood by God. One altogether; not by confusion of Essence; but by unity of Person. For as the reasonable soul and flesh is one man; so God and Man is one Christ;

John 17:1 (NIV)
After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:

Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.

Who suffered for our salvation; descended into hell; rose again the third day from the dead. He ascended into heaven, he sitteth on the right hand of the God the Father Almighty, from whence he will come to judge the quick and the dead. At whose coming all men will rise again with their bodies; And shall give account for their own works. And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting; and they that have done evil, into everlasting fire. This is the catholic faith; which except a man believe truly and firmly, he cannot be saved.

Amos 3:8 (NIV)
The lion has roared —
who will not fear?
The Sovereign Lord has spoken—
who can but prophesy?

Psalm 23

July 24, 2012

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. (Psalm 23:1)
Jesus, thank you for being my shepherd and for providing for me and my family.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside the still waters. (Psalm 23:2)
A word received: Pray for my sheep that they will find shepherds who will lead them by still waters. Father, thank you for those quiet times in your arms.

He restores my soul; he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. (Psalm 23:3)
Jesus, your name is holy: by the power of your name lead me into righteousness.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)
Jesus, I need the daily discipline of your rod and your staff — lead me through illness and old age.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. (Psalm 23:5)
Holy Spirit, help me daily come into your sanctuary — into your presence. Shut down all the static in my life. A word received: Yes, I want you to make it a place of peace and quiet.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Psalm 23:6)
Father, you have become my dwelling place, my high tower that I can flee to. Thank you for being a “dad” to me. A word received: Don’t be afraid when times are evil. Keep your eyes on me.

Become less “attached” to a memory in and through forgiveness. Allow Gods forgiveness to wash over you, the perpetrator and others. “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:14-15
