The Regents’ Prayer

Families are getting their children settled in school now. This prayer was composed in 1951 by the Board of Regents for the State of New York for children to recite daily in public school classrooms. In 1962, it was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers, and our country.
