Invite the good guest after evicting the trashing tennants

November 3, 2012

Here is a useful prayer journal reflection by Christian leadership coach Dave Kraft.

His thoughts contain sound advice for spiritual warfare. Some additional thoughts from L&B:

Knowing our weaknesses, confessing them and repenting of them is an essential part of prayer.

Yet it is vitally important that we be filled and re-filled as well. The evil one waits to reoccupy spiritually empty people:

“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation.” (Matthew 12:43-45 ESV)

That’s the warning, but Jesus gives positive instruction as well:

What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:11-13 ESV)

Father, help us to evict the world, the flesh and the devil, who we’ve foolishly allowed as squatters in our souls. Send us your Holy Spirit to fill us with the life of Jesus, who stands at our door and knocks.

Thank you, Father, for the grace by which you make us into Temples of the Holy Spirit and transform us into living stones built on Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.

Elections

November 3, 2012

In the Hebrew calendar, this is the season commemorating Noah and the flood. In a flood, things get rearranged. We are in an election season, with many thousand posts to be voted on.

Our Father in heaven,
May the United States experience a flood of righteousness in the rearrangement of these government posts. Amen.

40 days for life

November 3, 2012

O Father in heaven, Omnipotent King, Creator of all that was and is and evermore shall be, Your glory fills the earth and releases life.
O Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made, You are the sacrificial Lamb, paying the debt for our sins, redeeming life.
O Holy Spirit, Fire from above, proceeding from the Father, who spake by the prophets, You are the Giver of Life.
Holy Trinity, three-in-one, release life, redeem life, speak life, and give life in this world and the world to come. Amen.

Luke 12:32-38

November 3, 2012

“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)
Holy Spirit, set us free from fear and anxiety and help us put our trust in Jesus.

Thank you, Father, for giving us the kingdom.

“Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.” (Luke 12:33)
Jesus, please help us daily give of ourselves and our resources and receive treasure in heaven.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:34)
Father, please help us know that our true treasure is in you keeping.

“Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning;” (Luke 12:35)
Jesus, help us today to be servants who eagerly await your coming and your return, and keep the light of your Holy Spirit burning in our hearts.

“and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately.” (Luke 12:36)
Holy Spirit, help us daily shed forth the light of Christ — keep our lamps burning with your fire.

“Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them. And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.” (Luke 12:37-38 )
Father, help us to be servants who are hourly ready to do the bidding of Jesus and to serve him. Thank you.

A word received: Pray for my people. Pray for deep and lasting conversion.
