40 days for life

November 4, 2012

Editorial note: The pronoun ‘them’ in this passage refers to ‘images of men’ in verse 17.

Ezekiel 16:20-22 (ESV)
And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and these you sacrificed to them to be devoured. Were your whorings so small a matter that you slaughtered my children and delivered them up as an offering by fire to them? And in all your abominations and your whorings you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, wallowing in your blood.

Father in heaven,
We were once newoborns, naked and bare and wallowing in blood. We were once naked and bare, vulnerable in our mothers’ wombs.
We confess thhat we have aborted 54,000,000 of Your children since Roe v. Wade.
Lord have mercy on the United States.
Forgive us for our sexual immorality,
Christ, have mercy on the United States.
Forgive us for desiring to please images of men rather than You.
Lord, have mercy on the United States.
Forgive us for sacrificing Your children. Amen.

Mark 12:28-31

Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, “Which is the first commandment of all?” Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:28-31)
Holy Spirit, please restore to the Episcopal Church your priorities: loving God comes before loving man.

Father, please help us daily give our hearts and souls and minds to you.

Jesus, please help us daily be “Good Samaritans” who care for the wounded, the lost, and the weak, people who recognize who our neighbors are and truly love our neighbors as ourselves. Thank you.

A word received: I know your anxieties — do not be afraid. I AM with you.
