James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings. (James 1:1)
Holy Spirit, please help us to be faithful and true servants of Jesus.
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. (James 1:2-3)
Lord Jesus Christ, help us keep our attention on you as we go through the trials that lie ahead.
But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. (James 1:4)
Holy Spirit, you led the Children of Israel through the wilderness; lead this diocese and Bishop Bill through the wilderness that the Episcopal Church has become. Bring us to that maturity and perfection that come from trusting your guidance.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5)
Father, please give Bishop Bill and the leaders of this diocese wisdom in dealing with the attacks from the national church.
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. (James 1:6)
Holy Spirit, please help us ask in faith, never doubting in your guidance and love.
For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:7-8 )
Jesus, we pray for the double-minded among us — those who claim to be part of your church, yet they call evil good and good evil. Have mercy on us and on them. Thank you.
A word received: Look to me; I AM the way through your troubles.
