Palm trees, cherubim, and thanksgiving

Ezekiel 41:15b-20 (ESV)
The inside of the nave and the vestibules of the court, the thresholds and the narrow windows and the galleries all around the three of them, opposite the threshold, were paneled with wood all around, from the floor up to the windows (now the windows were covered), to the space above the door, even to the inner room, and on the outside. And on all the walls all around, inside and outside, was a measured pattern. It was carved of cherubim and palm trees, a palm tree between cherub and cherub. Every cherub had two faces: a human face toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side. They were carved on the whole temple all around. From the floor to above the door, cherubim and palm trees were carved; similarly the wall of the nave.

“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish
in the courts of our God.” (Ps 92:12,13 NIV)
We thank You for Your provision, dear Lord.
“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” (Ps 91:11-12 NIV)
We thank You for Your protection, dear Lord.
“After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.” (Rev 7:9-10 NIV)
We thank You for Your victory, dear Lord.

Israel

November 20, 2012

Interesting how Israel’s missile interception system is called the Iron Dome and Shamgar’s swinging of an iron oxgoad at oncoming Philistines would have created a dome-like space. The Philistines occupied the land that is now Gaza.

Judges 3:31 (NIV)
After Ehud came Shamgar son of Anath, who struck down six hundred Philistines with an oxgoad. He too saved Israel.

Anath–means answer (to prayer)
Shamgar–means sword

The number 600 is associated with warfare. Noah was 600 years old at the time of the flood. At the Exodus, Pharoah sent 600 of the best chariots. Six hundred Danites conquered Laish. Six hundred Benjamites escaped destruction by the men of Israel. King Saul had 600 men staying with him at Gibeah. David moved from place to place with 600 men as Saul searched for him.

Father, we humbly beseech You to stir the hearts of intercessors for the protection of Israel and the defeat of her enemies.

Habakkuk 3:1-3, 17-19

A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, on Shigionoth. O LORD, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O LORD, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy. God came from Teman, The Holy One from Mount Paran. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. (Habakkuk 3:1-3)
Holy Spirit, revive you work among us. Renew in our day the wonders of your Pentecost.

Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls — yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. (Habakkuk 3:17-18 )
Jesus, though I may go through hard times, help me daily make you my chief joy, for you are the God of my salvation. Thank you.

The LORD God is my strength; he will make my feet like deer’s feet, and he will make me walk on my high hills. (Habakkuk 3:19)
Father, you have done what I could not do — you have given me work and ministry and joy in you day by day. Thank you for taking me to heights and making me your child. Let the river of your Spirit flow through our community and parish. Thank you.
