John 15:1-8

January 5, 2013

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away; and every branch that bears fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” (John 15:1-2)
Father, I ask you to prune me — clear away all of the dead branches in my life and the branches that bear no fruit.

“You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.” (John 15:3)
Jesus, cleanse me by the words you speak to me.

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” (John 15:4)
Holy Spirit, please help me abide in Jesus so that I may bear good fruit for him.

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
Jesus, I can do nothing apart from you — keep me close to you. Help me show forth your love to others.

“If anyone does not abide in me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.” (John 15:6)
Jesus, we cry out to you for all those in the church who have ceased to abide in you — graft them back into the vine.

“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” (John 15:7)
Holy Spirit, please help us pray according to your mind so that our Father is glorified.

“By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be my disciples.” (John 15:8 )
Father, please help us bring you glory and honor by the fruit we produce in your Spirit. Thank you.

A word received: Pray for hearts that are renewed by my Spirit.
