Romans 8:10-17

March 14, 2013

And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. (Romans 8:10-11)
Holy Spirit, bring us to new life in Jesus.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors–not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. (Romans 8:12-13)
Jesus, please help us daily live and walk in your Holy Spirit and put to death the deeds of the flesh.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:14-15)
Father, thank you for adopting us — for giving us your Spirit of adoption by which we may know you and call you our “Dad”.

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (Romans 8:16)
Holy Spirit, thank you for your witness in our spirits that we are children of God.

and if children, then heirs–heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. (Romans 8:17)
Father, thank you for making us heirs to all your promises and joint heirs with Jesus.

Dear Lord,
We in the Episcopal Church have countenanced sin and broken bonds of trust. We have sown the wind and are reaping the whirlwind.
Hide those that trust in You in the Anglican Communion from wicked plots and snares. Gather them under the shelter of Your wings and keep them in the tabernacle of Your presence. Amen.
Psalm 31:20, Hosea 8:7

Mark 4:26-29 (The Message)
Then Jesus said, “God’s kingdom is like seed thrown on a field by a man who then goes to bed and forgets about it. The seed sprouts and grows—he has no idea how it happens. The earth does it all without his help: first a green stem of grass, then a bud, then the ripened grain. When the grain is fully formed, he reaps—harvest time!

Dear Heavenly Father,
You know the hearts of every person attending the enthronement of Archbishop Welby. Prepare the soil of their hearts to receive Your word and guard them from a false gospel. In the name of Your Son we pray. Amen.
