Nigerian Archbishop Ignatius Kattey kidnapped

September 9, 2013

From the BBC and the ACNS: The second highest ranking Anglican cleric in Nigeria has been kidnapped. Nigeria’s The Guardian newspaper quoted Church leaders as saying they were praying for the Dean’s unconditional release and that they “would not think of paying a ransom”.
I’m reminded of St. Alphege, kidnapped by the Danes, who refused to allow a personal ransom to be collected from his already over-burdened people. England was continual prey to the marauding Vikings when St. Alphege (also known as Aelfheah) was the Archbishop of Canterbury. King Aethelred the Unready had recourse to repeated bribes, with which he hoped to purchase relief from their attacks, but Alphege sought to win them by the power of the gospel.
Let us pray for the deliverance of Archbishop Kattey.

Adapted from Psalm 149 (ESV)

Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the godly!
Let the Anglican Communion be glad in his Maker;
let them rejoice in their King!
So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. (Isaiah 59:19 KJV)

Let them praise his name with dancing,
making melody to him with tambourine and lyre!
For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
he adorns the humble with salvation.
So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. (Isaiah 59:19 KJV)

Let the godly exult in glory;
let them sing for joy on their beds.
Let the high praises of God be in their throats
and two-edged swords in their hands,
We lift up the sword of the Spirit, Lord. Defend the gospel in loyalty, honor, and commitment! Defend Archbishop Kattey! Deliver him with a strong hand and an outstretched arm!

to execute vengeance on the nations
and punishments on the peoples,
to bind their kings with chains
and their nobles with fetters of iron,
to execute on them the judgment written!
Jehovah Sabaoth, bind the demonic forces of evil at play in this kidnapping with chains and fetters of iron. Execute on them the judgment written!

This is honor for all his godly ones.
Praise the Lord!

Mark 15:40-41

There were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome, who also followed him and ministered to him when he was in Galilee, and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem. (Mark 15:40-41)
      Jesus, bless all those women who continue to minister to you through prayer, altar guilds, Sunday Schools, community service, prayer tables, evangelism, Daughters of the King, Sisters of St. Mary, Franciscans of the Holy Cross, Cursillo, the Deaconate, the Priesthood, and other forms of service.

      Holy Spirit, call more men and women into your service in the harvest fields.

      Father, thank you for the opportunities you give us to serve your son Jesus.

A word received: Follow me, no matter what happens.

Worthy is the Lamb, seated on the throne
High and lifted up.

Then I saw a Lamb that looked as if it had been slaughtered, but it was now standing between the throne and the four living beings and among the twenty-four elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the sevenfold Spirit of God that is sent out into every part of the earth. Revelation 5:6

O Lamb of God, head full-crowned, sovereign over every dimension, the seen and the unseen, in Honduras,
You are worthy.

On earth, You were carried in the womb and carried in the arms of Your parents.
You walked on land and walked on water.
You rode in boats and on a donkey.
You were lifted on a cross.
Your authority over transportation is sent out into Honduras. Your authority is manifold, over light and color, sound and motion, space and time.
You are worthy.
