Psalm 78:1-8

September 24, 2013

O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old — what we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done. (Psalm 78:1-4)

A word received 8/5/12: Make this your prayer each day and make the choice to share my good news with the next generation.

A prayer received 8/5/12: Help us to recognize the opportunities you give us.

Holy Spirit, stir up our hearts to share the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection, of his cross and his blood shed for us with the next generation.

He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, (Psalm 78:5)
Father, we want to share our testimony with our children — help us do that.

so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. (Psalm 78:6)
Jesus, please help our children declare what you have done to their children.

Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. (Psalm 78:7)
Father, we pray for the generations which will follow us, that they will put their hope in you. Thank you and help us keep your commandments.

They would not be like their ancestors— a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him. (Psalm 78:8 )
LORD, help our generation repent of its rebellious ways. Thank you.

A word received: Seek my face.

A word received: Look to me for light. I want to guide your steps.

***** There is an amazing film entitled FINDING A FAMILY which you can watch on YouTube at Pray for the children who “fall through the cracks” of the social welfare system.

From Wikipedia: Early Islamic sources describe the country as inhabited by tribes who worshipped the idol Awal, from which the Arabs named the island of Bahrain Awal for many centuries. Awal resembled the head of an ox. The meaning of the name is ‘first’.

To whom then will you liken God, or what likeness compare with him? . . . Do you not know? Do you not hear? . . . It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them like a tent to dwell in. Isaiah 40:18-22 ESV

Our Father in heaven,
You measured the waters of the Persian Gulf in the hollow of Your hand and marked off the heavens with a span. You enclosed the dust of the Bahrain archipelago in a measure and weighed the hills in a balance. May every spiritual valley of Bahrain be lifted up, and every spiritual mountain and hill be made low, the uneven ground become level and the rough places a plain. May the glory of the Lord be revealed in Bahrain and all flesh see it together. Amen.
