Jeremiah 35:18-19 (NIV)
Then Jeremiah said to the family of the Rekabites, “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘You have obeyed the command of your forefather Jehonadab and have followed all his instructions and have done everything he ordered.’ Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Jehonadab son of Rekab will never fail to have a descendant to serve me.’”
Descendants of the Rechabites have been reported in Basra, Iraq; around the Dead Sea; and Yemen. The eccentric Jewish Christian missionary Joseph Wolff , an Anglican cleric of the 1800’s, wrote:
“In Yemen I spent six days with the Rechabites. They drink no wine, plant no vineyards, sow no seed, live in tents, and remember the words of Jonadab, the son of Rechab. With them were the children of Israel of the tribe of Dan, . . . who expect, in common with the children of Rechab, the speedy arrival of the Messiah in the clouds of heaven.”
Our Father in heaven,
Tradition holds that after the Flood, Shem, the son of Noah, built the capital of Yemen. Shem is the ancestor of Abraham. Biblical revelation since Shem has come through his bloodline.
Blessed be the Lord God of Shem and blessed be Shem’s bloodline and his descendants in Yemen.
In the past, descendants of the Rechabites were reported in Yemen.
Blessed be the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, who promised that a descendant of Rechab would always serve Him, and blessed be the descendants of Rechab in Yemen.
Tradition holds that the inhabitants of the Yemeni island Socotra were converted to Christianity by Thomas the Apostle in AD 52. On his way to India Thomas was shipwrecked there, and he used the wreckage of the ship to build a church. Christianity survived over a millennium on the island.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, and blessed be any Christians residing in Yemen.
Lord, we cry out for favor for the nation of Yemen. We claim the blessings of Shem’s bloodline, of the Rechabites, of the Christians in this land. Favor, favor, favor!
Use the wreckage of the millennia to do a new thing. Amen.
