A song for Advent: In the Waiting, by Matt Redman (a rare bonus track)

In my Advent Worship Playlist is a wonderful, but extremely rare (at least in the U.S.) song by Matt Redman called In the Waiting.  It was released as a bonus track on the UK edition of Matt Redman’s breakthrough 1998 album The Friendship and the Fear.  Strangely enough, the UK and US versions of that album are VERY different!  I was fortunate to be given the UK version of the CD by a friend – I think it was the first I’d ever heard of Matt Redman.

So, I have this wonderful song that I find becoming a “theme song” of sorts for me this Advent, but I imagine most US readers of this blog will have never heard it.  I cannot find it on any US site for purchase or online streaming.  So, I’m sharing it here for your Advent blessing.

Advent Waiting

In the Waiting

by Matt Redman & Todd Proctor

I cultivate a quiet place
within this life of mine.
I come to wait before the One
who know my heart’s design.
In the stillness I have come to wait before You God

And I find You in the waiting
And I find You in the waiting
You remind me, in the stillness,
To know You are God

You heard my cry so long before
I ever spoke a word.
You knew my name so long before
the heavens touched the earth.
In the stillness I have come to wait before You God

And I find You in the waiting
And I find You in the waiting
You remind me, in the stillness,
To know You are God

The chord chart can be found here.
