1 John 1:4-9

February 17, 2014

And these things we write to you that your joy may be full. (1 John 1:4)
Father, please help us to receive your Scriptures so that we may enter into the joy you have prepared for us.

This is the message which we have heard from him and declare to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5)
Jesus, help us daily share the good news with those who walk in darkness, that they can come into your light.

If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (1 John 1:6)
Holy Spirit, help us speak words of truth and walk in the light of Jesus.

But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)
Father, thank you for all those men and women who have come to the cleansing blood of Jesus and the light that comes from confessing their sins.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (1 John 1:8 )
Holy Spirit, save us from self-deception.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
Jeus, thank you for making us clean. Thank you for all those young men who have to you at the prayer table and have been made clean by confessing their sins.

If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:10)
Jesus, let your word of truth abide in us. Thank you for the young man on Saturday who walked up to the prayer table and said, “I have sins I need to confess.” Help us daily by your Holy Spirit minister your love and the forgiveness of sins. Thank you.

A word received: Come into my arms with your griefs.

Mobile antiaircraft missiles in Syria

February 17, 2014

From the weekend WSJ: Because of the failed peace talks between the Syrian regime and the rebels, Saudi Arabia will provide shoulder-fired antiaircraft missiles (made in China) and antitank guided missiles (made in Russia) to the more moderate rebels. The US has long opposed arming rebels with these sophisticated weapons because they could fall into the hands of extremists. The US is providing salaries to the more moderate rebels.

Some time back, God had instructed me to make a small-scale map of Syria out of clay. I confess that I just recently obeyed Him. The clay medium allowed me to shape the Anti-Lebanon Mountain range and the Qalamun Mountain range, extending from Israel in the south, along the western border with Lebanon, to the north of Damascus. So much biblical history in these mountains–Abel’s tomb, Abraham’s defeat of the four kings, Paul’s conversion on the road to Damascus. Then last October, a 128-foot tall bronze statue of Jesus, christened “I have come to save the world,” was erected on a mountain top in war-torn Syria as a symbol of peace in the Middle East.
Israel’s border with Syria is comparatively short. As I shaped the border, I realized why God instructed me to use clay. I pressed an indention into the clay with my fingertip. My finger was pointing to the statue “I have come to save the world.” The land mass of Israel at the Syrian border points to Jesus.

Our Father in heaven,
In an odd sort of way, the land of Israel points to Jesus the Prince of Peace, while the nations of Saudi Arabia, the United States, China, and Russia point to war.

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

For to Syria this child Jesus is born. For to Syria Your Son is given. May the government be upon His shoulder, and His name called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Your kingdom come, Your will be done through the Anti-Lebanon and Qalamun Mountain ranges and in Damascus. Your kingdom come, Your will be done in Syria, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Russia, and China.

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy. Amen.
