John 10:22-30

February 20, 2014

Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter. And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon’s porch. Then the Jews surrounded him and said to him, “How long do you keep us in doubt? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. (John 10:22-25)
      Jesus, your words are plain enough; give your people, your church, ears to hear.

But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:26-27)
      Jesus, please help us follow you wherever you lead us.

And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:28 )
      Thank you, Jesus, for the new life you have given us. Thank you for protecting us from the tempter’s power.

My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.” (John 10:29-30)
      Father, please help us by your Holy Spirit to daily enter into that unity you have with your Son Jesus. Help us go out into the harvest fields and invite others into that new life. Thank you.

A word received: Bear each other’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.

A word received: Come to me. Come to me for what only I can do.

1 Chronicles 15:22,25,27,28 (NKJV)
Chenaniah, leader of the Levites, was instructor in charge of the music, because he was skillful;
So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed-Edom with joy.
David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who bore the ark, the singers, and Chenaniah the music master with the singers. David also wore a linen ephod. Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn, with trumpets and with cymbals, making music with stringed instruments and harps.

Our Father in heaven,
We thank You for the skill that You have implanted in the church musicians and choirs across the Diocese of Bath and Wells. We declare to the musicians and choirs,

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. The joy of the Lord is Your strength! Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart! Worship the Father in spirit and in truth. Praise the Lord!

Amen.
