A quick note on Lent music posts and the Lent music links compilation

March 17, 2014

Hi all,

Work has been extremely busy, and my internet connections quite poor, so I’ve not yet been able to update the Lenten Music Compilation post since first creating the compilation on March 7th.  I’ve got lots to add!   I hope to get to it very soon.

In the meantime, you can find all the latest posts featuring Lent music using our Lent music category link.  For some reason, this year music seems to be really central to my Lenten devotions and worship, and thus much of what I’m posting revolves around music.  So far I’ve already posted 6 devotional entries featuring music, and I hope to continue posting 3 or 4 musical selections for Lent each week throughout Lent – balancing classical and contemporary selections.

Also, I’m hoping to get a little time to go back and update musical links from previous years’ featured Lenten music as a number of the links (to myspace or other sites) no longer work.   Stay tuned…  As always, I pray that the Lent prayers, devotional entries and various resources we post here will be a blessing and help each of us draw closer to Jesus and be refined and transformed this Lent.

A Musical Prayer for a Lenten Monday Morning: Lord I Need You

March 17, 2014

I found today’s Lenten musical selection at my good friend BabyBlue’s blog :

It’s a great acoustic duet with Matt Maher and Audrey Assad of “Lord I Need You,” a song which was featured on the awesome 2011 Passion release “Here for You.”  I’ve liked this song since I first heard the Passion version (sung by Chris Tomlin), but this acoustic version really brings out the lyrics and turns the song into a true heartfelt confession of our need for Jesus and a passionate cry for more of Him.  A great way to start a Monday in Lent, or any day.

Here are the lyrics:

Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You’re the One that guides my heart

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus, You’re my hope and stay

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

You’re my one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

A Celtic Prayer – We Look to You to Save and Help Us

March 17, 2014

Over the weekend Trevin Wax posted a wonderful Celtic prayer:

Jesus, Savior of the world,
come to us in Your mercy;
we look to You to save and help us.
We look to You to save and help us.

By Your cross and Your life laid down,
You set Your people free:
we look to You to save and help us.
We look to You to save and help us.

When they were ready to perish,
You saved Your disciples:
we look to You to come to our help.
We look to You to save and help us.

In the greatness of Your mercy,
loose us from our chains:
forgive the sins of all Your people.
We look to You to save and help us.

There’s more, go read it all….  And, oh yes, Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

The prayer is from:  The Rhythm of Life: Celtic Daily Prayer by David Adam
