2 Corinthians 4:6-10

April 11, 2014

For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:6)
Father, thank you for this command by which we are able to see your glory reflected in the face of Jesus.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. (2 Corinthians 4:7)
Jesus, thank you that your strength is perfected in my weakness.

We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed–always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. (2 Corinthians 4:8-10)
Holy Spirit, thank you for the life of Jesus that you show forth in my life.

Psalm 95:8 A word received: Do not harden your hearts.

A prayer received: Help us to do your word.

Genesis 6:2-5 (NKJV)

. . . the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.

And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Job 1:6 (NKJV)
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.

Dear Heavenly Father,
I am a fallen creature of little understanding. I do not understand these scriptures. Lord, have mercy. I give you my lack of understanding.
I do understand this. Christ Jesus is the Son of Man.

Though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

If, in any way, the sons of God, the giants, and the mighty men of old hold sway in Syria,
If, in any way, the sons of God, the giants, and the mighty men of old are blocking the establishment of Your kingdom in Syria,
We humbly invite Christ Jesus, the Son of Man, to break their stranglehold and to remove their obstructions. Your kingdom come, Your will be done in Syria as it is in heaven. Amen.

Music for Lent: Chris Bowater – Create in Me

April 11, 2014

Last night a wonderful song by British Songwriter and Worship Leader Chris Bowater came up in my iTunes shuffle.  It’s a song I’ve not listened to in sometime, and I’m guessing few Americans have ever heard it as Chris Bowater’s music is not well known in the US.

It makes a wonderful Lent prayer:

The song is Create in Me, from his 2009 album, Personal Worship

Here are the lyrics:

Create in me (Heart cry for purity)

By Chris Bowater / David Lyon

A clean and righteous spirit God
And blameless in Your sight

Renew in me
The child that longs to worship You
In honesty
Consumed by You alone

With a heart cry for purity
Living each day honouring You,
With a heart cry for purity
All sin and shame confessed

Restore to me
The joy that I have found in You
With praise O God
For all that You have done

May the steps that I take
And the choices I make
Reflect my heart for You
That loves the things that You love
And does what You would; do
