I haven’t seen this film, but it has been recommended by a friend who has. It is available free online September 6. You need a Bethel.TV account, the basic option of which is also free.–JW

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. (Romans 12:1)
Holy Spirit, please help us enter into this life of self-sacrifice.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2)
Jesus, please transform our minds and our ways of thinking so that we may give evidence of our Father’s perfect will for us.

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. (Romans 12:6-8 )
Father, please help us use the gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit to build up the whole body of Christ. Thank you.

WORD: Keep looking to me for direction.

Gihon Spring

August 31, 2014

From Wikipedia: The major source of fresh water of the ancient city of Jerusalem was the Gihon Spring, on the side of the cliff. It is a rhythmic spring (aka intermittent spring)–the flow of water either varies or starts and stops entirely, over a fairly regular time-scale. The Gihon Spring flows from three to five times daily in winter, twice daily in summer, and only once daily in autumn. This peculiarity is accounted for by the supposition that the outlet from the reservoir is by a passage in the form of a siphon.

Our Father in heaven,
Just as King Hezekiah once dug a tunnel through the rock from the Gihon Spring to the Pool of Siloam, we pray that Jesus, the King of kings, will dig a tunnel through the stony hearts of the residents of Jerusalem for the rhythmic flow of Your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Psalm 46:8-10 (ESV)
Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”

Our Father in heaven,
In the midst of so many tribulations, persecutions, and terrors around the world, I wonder what it all means. Are there wars taking place in unseen realms? I do not know.
This I do know. Blessed are those who take refuge in Your Son. You have made the nations His heritage.
We run to Jesus for refuge. Protect us from terrorism. Whether they be in the natural realm or unseen realms, break the bow and shatter the spear of the evil forces who are plotting terror. Burn their chariots with fire.
Protect the nations of the earth, especially ______. Shield the innocent.
You are exalted among the nations. You are exalted in the earth. You are exalted in ______. Amen.
Psalm 2:8,12

John 8, Acts 11, and Psalm 116

August 30, 2014

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Jesus, please help me by your Holy Spirit to follow you day by day so that I may walk in your light. The surrounding darkness presses in on me. I need your light of life. Thank you.

When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.” (Acts 11:18 )
God, bring me also to that daily repentance that leads to life. Thank you.

I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my supplications. (Psalm 116:1)
Thank you, Father, for hearing me.

Because he has inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call upon him as long as I live. (Psalm 116:2)
Father, because of what you have done and are doing, I call upon your for your help. Thank you.

WORD: Seek out my light to walk in.

Philippians 4:8-9 The Voice
Finally, brothers and sisters, fill your minds with beauty and truth. Meditate on whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy. Keep to the script: whatever you learned and received and heard and saw in me—do it—and the God of peace will walk with you.

O God of peace,
Your peace surpasses our understanding. Our mortal frames do not comprehend the entirety of all that it is.
We pray for the sufferers of autism spectrum disorders, especially _____. Fill their minds with beauty and truth. Teach them to meditate on whatever is honorable, pure, lovely, good, virtuous, and praiseworthy. Inform their thoughts and memories, words and actions, with Holy Scripture and walk with them. Amen.

Isaiah 32:17-18 (AMP)
And the effect of righteousness will be peace [internal and external], and the result of righteousness will be quietness and confident trust forever.
My people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, in safe dwellings, and in quiet resting-places.

Dear Father in heaven,
Western Africa is hardly a peaceable habitation. We cry out for these poor people in the midst of an epidemic. Have mercy.
We see through a glass darkly. If there are spiritual conditions that have set the stage for this plague, we humbly ask You to reveal this to the spiritual leaders in these nations and teach them what to do.
Healing of bodies, minds, and spirits, Lord. Healing of the nations. Healing! Healing! Healing! Amen.

Job 26:6 (AMP)
Sheol (the place of the dead) is naked before God, and Abaddon (the place of destruction) has no covering [from His eyes].

Proverbs 15:11 (AMP)
Sheol (the place of the dead) and Abaddon (the abyss, the final place of the accuser Satan) are both before the Lord—how much more, then, the hearts of the children of men?

Dear Jesus,
You descended into the lower parts of the earth and ascended far above the heavens, that You might fill all things. You are the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in You, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in You shall never die.
The hearts of the people of Israel are before You. In You is life, and Your life is the light of mankind that cannot be overcome by darkness. Fill Israel with Your life, we pray. Amen.
John 1:4-5, 11:25a, Ephesians 4:9-10

August 29, 2014

Jesus answered them and said, “My doctrine is not mine, but his who sent me.” (John 7:16)
Father, I pray that more of our clergy will find their doctrine in you.

“Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” (John 7:24)
Holy Spirit, help us all use righteous judgment.

Therefore I came without objection as soon as I was sent for. I ask, then, for what reason have you sent for me?” So Cornelius said, “Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing, and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your alms are remembered in the sight of God. Send therefore to Joppa and call Simon here, whose surname is Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea. When he comes, he will speak to you.’ So I sent to you immediately, and you have done well to come. Now therefore, we are all present before God, to hear all the things commanded you by God.” (Acts 10:29-33)
Jesus, I ask you to arrange more such divine appointments; and give us ears and hearts that are ready to respond.

For you will light my lamp; the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. (Psalm 18:28)
LORD my God, light my lamp and let your light enlighten my darkness daily.

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. (John 7:37)
Jesus, I come; fill me up.

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)
Flow river flow. Jesus I want to receive more of your Holy Spirit.

To him all the prophets witness that, through his name, whoever believes in him will receive remission of sins.” (Acts 10:43)
Father, help us to be witnesses for Jesus as well.

You will show me the path of life; in your presence is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psalm 16:11)
Lord, help me enter into your pleasures.

WORD: Keep on turning to me. [Don’t give up.]
WORD: I continue to uphold you.

***** ST. ANN’S OF AMSTERDAM, (Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, 10-11:15 a.m. in front of our church on Division Street. Beautiful late summer morning; lots of people out and about. John Banfield, James Bryant and Deacon Alan Hart presiding at His table today.)

Important note: We still need a second person (we always want to have at least TWO people out there) to sit with John Banfield at the table on Monday, Sept. 8, as James and Alan will both be out of town. No one has come forward as yet to pray with John and help distribute food and clothing. It would be a shame to not have the table that day as so many of our neighbors have come to expect us to be out there for them every Monday. Could someone step forward, and tell Father Neal you are coming? Thank you!)

a — Anointed with Holy Oil
t — received wooden cross made by Dennis Adams of North Carolina f — received free non-perishable food we offer c — received free used, clean clothing we offer.

(Second note: We also gave out free book bags and school supplies to some needy families in our neighborhood who are regulars at our table.)

a,f,c — REBECCA — She asked for continue prayer for her two-year-old nephew MICHAEL, who was badly beaten earlier in the month by a man who is not a member of the family. (The man is in jail now.) Michael has a broken leg in a cast and many bad bruises.

f,c — NANCY — Nancy is a regular who is a Roman Catholic who has started to share faith stories with us. She gave me (Alan) a book about prayer today to keep and read called “Secrets of the Lost Mode of Prayer.” How nice of her!

t,f,c — EDWIN — Gave him a blessing for safety and protection. Then .. we had something unfortunate — the first argument we’ve ever had at the table. Edwin is like most of the people who come to the table for prayer, food and clothing: he only takes what he NEEDS for the next day or two. Well, Edwin apparently resented that one of the other people at the table was taking more food than she needed. (There is a kind of an unspoken code at the table that you may take all you want but to not take more than you really need, since others need food, too.) After the verbal spat broke up and the other person left, we told Edwin it is OK that she took “too much.” It is not for us (presiding at the table (or him!) to judge how much people need. Our only concern is to feed the hungry.

f,c — DARCY — Asked for prayers for a friend of hers. God knows the details.

a,t — ANGIE — She asked for prayers for continued good health and safety for herself, her two sons and her daughter.

t — ED — Asked for a cross. We prayed for his safety and well-being.

MIKE — This man helps out at the Masonic Temple meal across the street. He thanked us for ” … being out here” for the neighborhood needy.

a,f,t — SANDY — First-time visitor who had just been visiting her mother in the apartment building next to us. She asked what we were doing out here, then sought prayer and some small items of food for her mother.

t — BIANCA — She has not been to see us in awhile. She first came a month or so ago and asked if we could pray against demons who are constantly pestering her. At that time we asked God to drive out of her anything that is not of Him and to send them to Jesus to bind and deal with as He will. She said the prayer “worked” a month ago but that the demons are back! We repeated the prayers against the evil things surrounding Bianca. She took a cross and nothing else.

f,c,t — EVELYN — First-time visitor. Asked for a general prayer for safety and good health.

a,a — CONSUELA and OLIVIA — Olivia is bi-lingual and is healthy. Her friend Consuela speaks only Spanish and is very sick. (God knows the details.) We prayed for the healing of Consuela, and Olivia translated our English so she could understand. After the prayer, she held my hand firmly and nodded her head in thanks.

t, — DAVANI — Very young boy who came with his father (no name) and wanted one of our crosses and a box of juice. We prayed for him to be healthy and safe and to continue to walk with the Lord.

a — JAY — Frequent visitor the last two years, but not lately. We prayed for him to remain in good health and to be safe. (I was embarrassed at first because I mistakenly called him “John,” and he stopped me at the beginning and smiled and said “If you’re going to pray for me, you better use my right name. It’s Jay!”)

t,f,c — EDDIE — This man came with his wife and two young boys. We prayed for their safety and well-being. We noticed they were all wearing clothes they had received at the table in past visits. Our clothing distribution IS helping our neighbors!

f,c — BOB — Came just as we were closing the table down. Prayed for Jesus to continue and complete the healing Bob has experienced since having heart issues early in the summer.

Ebola virus epidemic

August 29, 2014

From Bloomberg:

The number of people falling ill is accelerating, with more than 40 percent of the infections happening in the past 21 days, the Geneva-based United Nations agency said today.

Athaliah usurped the throne and attempted to destroy all the royal family of the house of Judah. She tried to rob God’s destiny through the generations. She is killed at the gate.

2 Chronicles 23:13-16
And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king: and all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets, also the singers with instruments of musick, and such as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason. . . .
So they laid hands on her; and when she was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king’s house, they slew her there.
And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the Lord’s people.

Father of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
The Ebola virus is devastating portions of Africa and trying to rob Your destiny for these people through the generations.
Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. He died on a cross that we might live. We praise His holy name.
We confess that Jesus Christ is Lord of the generations, to the glory of God the Father. At the name of Jesus the spirits of Athaliah—death, destruction, and theft of God-given generational destiny—in the Ebola epidemic in Africa must bow. Destroy this virus at the gate, dear Lord.
We humbly beseech You that these people groups in Africa would make a covenant to be Your people. Amen.

Psalm 40:1-3 (ESV)
I waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.
He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
making my steps secure.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord.

O Father,
You are in our midst, and You are mighty to save. Autism is like a miry bog. Hear our cry. Draw the sufferers of autism spectrum disorders, especially _______, from this pit of chaos and set their feet on the Rock. Make their steps secure.
Rejoice over them with gladness. Quiet them by Your love. Exult over them with loud singing. Speak Shalom in their bodies, minds, and spirits, Shalom in their spiritual and natural DNA. Shalom! Shalom! Shalom! Amen.

John, Acts, and Psalm 11

August 27, 2014

<b>Then Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.”</b> (John 7:6)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Lord, there is a time and a season for everything under heaven. Please help me wait for your times and seasons. Thank you.

<b>It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.</b> (John 6:63)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Jesus, I need your words written on my heart. I need your Spirit, and I need to know your new life in me more and more.

<b>Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?” But Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”</b> (John 6:67-69)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Jesus, I too have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Help my unbelief. Thank you.

<b>Now it came to pass, as Peter went through all parts of the country, that he also came down to the saints who dwelt in Lydda. There he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years and was paralyzed. And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed.” Then he arose immediately.</b> (Acts 9:32-34)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Holy Spirit, please help us set the paralyzed free to walk again so that many will come to know that Jesus is the Son of Man and has the power to forgive sins and make people whole and well again.

<b>If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?</b> (Psalm 11:3)

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;LORD, what are we to do when things fall apart? You are in your holy temple: hear and rescue us. Thank you.

For the evangelism of Israel

August 27, 2014

One of our faithful readers reminded me that it had been a while since praying for the evangelism of the Jews.

Mark 8:27-29 (ESV)
And Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.”

Our Father in heaven,
We stand in agreement with the confession of Peter, spoken in what is now the Golan Heights, and say, Your Son Jesus is the Christ. We pray that the name of Jesus will be confessed throughout the Golan Heights. Amen.

John 20:26-27 (ESV)

Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”  Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”

Yes, Lord Jesus, we believe that Your peace is with ________.
