Jerusalem

A magnificent movie trailer for the film Jerusalem may be found here.

Psalm 122:6-9 (VOICE)
Ask heaven to grant peace to Jerusalem:
“May those who love you prosper.
O Jerusalem, may His peace fill this entire city!
May this citadel be quiet and at ease!”
It’s because of people—my family, friends, and acquaintances—
that I say, “May peace permeate you.”
And because the house of Eternal One, our God, is here, know this:
I will always seek your good!

Psalm 56:3,4a,9b,10,11a (ESV)
When I am afraid,
I put my trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. . . .
This I know, that God is for me.
In God, whose word I praise,
in the Lord, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.

Dear Father,
We humbly beseech You to unleash a spirit of praise on the Chrisitans in western and central Africa. As they walk through the valley of the shadow of death, guide and guard them. May they put their trust in You, and may You bless them. With You, all things are possible. Amen.

Israel

I will praise the LORD, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I have set the LORD always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.
Psalm 16:7-8

Our Father in heaven,

Gideon built an altar to You and called it Jehovah-shalom. That same night You instructed him to pull down the altar of Baal, use the wood to build an altar to You and offer a burnt sacrifice.
When Gideon asked for a sign, twice You visited the fleece at night.
At night You came to him again and told him to meet the Midianites in battle. You gave him yet another sign. He overheard someone recount a dream about a loaf of bread tumbling into the Midianite camp and overturning a tent.
At night, Gideon routed the Midianite camp, by blowing the trumpets, breaking the pitchers, holding the lamps, and shouting, ‘The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.’

We thank You for visiting the faithful at night. Stay close to Your sons and daughters in Israel, Lord. Give them instructions. Grant their requests for signs. Speak to them in dreams.

Jesus, You are the Bread of Life. Overturn the tents of the terrorists.

May the Christians in Israel release the sound of the trumpet, hold up the light of Christ, and wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Amen.

This article from Foreign Policy is the most insightful I have found in understanding the crisis.–JW

2 Kings 20:20 (ESV)
The rest of the deeds of Hezekiah and all his might and how he made the pool and the conduit and brought water into the city, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

From Wikipedia: The ancient city of Jerusalem, being on a mountain, is naturally defensible from almost all sides, but suffers from the drawback that its major source of fresh water, the Gihon spring, is on the side of the cliff overlooking the Kidron Valley. This presents a major military weakness as the city walls, if high enough to be defensible, must necessarily leave the Gihon spring outside, thus leaving the city without a fresh water supply in case of siege.
King Hezekiah’s tunnel, leading from the Gihon Spring to the Pool of Siloam, was designed as an aqueduct to provide Jerusalem with water during an impending siege by the Assyrians, led by Sennacherib.

Our Father in heaven,

The Ebola virus has besieged large swaths of western and central Africa. Lord, have mercy. We humbly beseech You to raise up civic leaders like King Hezekiah to design and implement the means to provide the material needs of the patients and the villages in Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo that are quarantined.

O Father, may these nations be washed in the river flowing from the throne of God, healed, and have their destinies and identities restored in You. Physical healing and spiritual healing, Lord. Have mercy. Amen.
