Philippians 2 and Psalm 25

September 28, 2014

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for his good pleasure. (Philippians 2:12-13)
Father, help me desire your good will and pleasure more and more each day.

The secret of the LORD is with those who fear him, and he will show them his covenant. (Psalm 25:14)
Father, daily bring me into that secret place with you and establish me in your covenant in peace.

WORD: Come to me and let me carry your burdens.
WORD: You are in my care; my hand is upon you.

Ebola: Pray for Liberia’s chief medical officer #PraytoendEbola

September 28, 2014

Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint.

Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.

Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings! Selah

(Psalm 61:1-4 ESV)

This morning I urge prayer for Liberia’s chief medical officer, Bernice Dahn.   She has been exposed to Ebola.  Her assistant recently died from the disease.  News reports indicate that although she is not showing any symptoms, Bernice Dahn has put herself  and the rest of her staff in strict 21 day quarantine so that she will not infect others.

One of the greatest tragedies of the Ebola outbreak is that it has infected at least  373 health workers in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, killing 208 of those.  Ebola is killing those who are most needed to help these countries fight this epidemic!

Father, we lift up Bernice and her staff to you.  Protect them from contracting Ebola.  Do not allow the virus to have any foothold in their bodies.  Comfort them as they mourn the colleagues and friends who have died from Ebola.  Lord we cry out for protection for all the medical staff and health officials on the frontlines in Liberia.  Give them much wisdom in how to fight this outbreak.  May their efforts show real results and may we see an evident slowing of the spread disease this week, we pray in the name of our merciful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Father, may Bernice know your presence with her in this time of quarantine. Be her refuge and her shelter.  Protect her from fear.  May this be a time of strengthening as she rests in You. Amen.
