#PraytoendEbola Day 6: Pray for those living the nightmare of Ebola

October 4, 2014

via email from SIM:

According to God’s Word, we are called to uphold our brothers and sisters through prayer in all circumstances. “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” (Ephesians 6:18 NIV)

You have answered the call by joining our seven days of focused prayer, September 29 through October 5, for the end of the Ebola crisis in West Africa.

Please continue praying today, DAY FIVE of #praytoendebola:

Pray that God would intervene to end the Ebola crisis. Also, pray that all those waking up each day to the devastation of Ebola would experience God’s strength and comfort.

For the people of West Africa, Ebola is a nightmare that they wake up to every single day. Many have seen their family, friends, and neighbors infected . . . and some mourn deaths.

Your fervent prayers today will make a difference!

Please share this entire prayer effort with your church members and fellow believers by every means possible.

Updated prayer requests and other resources can be found at www.praytoendebola.org. Log on today to let us know your church is standing with us in prayer! Pass the word along! #praytoendebola

Ebola

Colossians 1:15-17 (NLT)
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him.
He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.

Christ Jesus,
You are supreme over everything, in the heavenly realms and on earth. You are supreme over Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea.
We are blind creatures, much to be pitied. We cannot perceive the thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world in western Africa.
But You can. We lean on You and not on our own understanding. We pray for Your kingdom to come and Your will to be done in western Africa. We pray for the establishment of Your kingdom in the hearts of the people, in the land and waters. We pray for the establishment of Your kingdom in the unseen realms, in every dimension, above and below, to the right and the left, before and behind.
At Your name, every knee shall bow, in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue confess that You are Lord. You are supreme in western Africa. You are supreme over all idols in the land. You are supreme over all demonic strongholds. You are supreme over the Ebola virus.
Rebuke this plague, we pray. Amen.

Inspiring and Helpful Quotes on Prayer…

October 4, 2014

Do you sometimes need encouragement, motivation, perspective in prayer?  Here are some good quotes on prayer which I gathered on Twitter and around the blogosphere this week.  Some of these are from well known saints – Martin Luther, Charles Spurgeon, Corrie Ten Boom, George Herbert.  Others are excerpted from articles by current Christian authors and bloggers.

Intercessory prayer is exceedingly prevalent. What wonders it has wrought! The Word of God teems with its marvelous deeds. Believer, thou hast a mighty engine in thy hand, use it well, use it constantly, use it with faith, and thou shalt surely be a benefactor to thy brethren.” C.H. Spurgeon  (from a blog entry at Anglican Pastor)

***

Jesus’ intercession isn’t just a prayer that He prayed, but the life He lived. Everything that He said and did was not for Him, rather it was all for us! [….]. True intercession begins by following Jesus’ example of self-giving and then flows into fervent prayer for the lives of others.  (Dr. Winfield Bevins, in a blog entry at Anglican Pastor)

…our conception of the strength we need differs from God’s. When we pray for strength, we may imagine the answer looking like increased capacities to accomplish or escape. But the strength that God supplies (1 Peter 4:11) is often increased capacities to trust his promises, which might require dying to our envisioned accomplishment or enduring what we wish to escape.  (Jon Bloom in an article at Desiring God: Praying for the strength that God supplies)

***

Praying in faith comes from an abiding faith in the Person prayed to—the confidence is in Him. It is based on a knowledge of who He is, and on a trusted conviction that He is worthy to be trusted. Praying in faith is the act of a simple-hearted child of God. –  Corrie ten Boom  (posted by Pat Dague at Transfigurations)
