Luke and 2 Thessalonians

December 13, 2014

And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to me, strengthen your brethren.” (Luke 22:31-32)
WORD (11/18/06) Pray for the day of my threshing. Pray that none of the wheat will be lost with the chaff. Pray for my little ones who are being led astray by lies. Pray for my will to be done.

Please burn away all the chaff in our lives and help us bear fruit worthy of repentance.

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all. (2 Thessalonians 3:16)
Lord, we ask for your peace.

The salutation of Paul with my own hand, which is a sign in every epistle; so I write. (2 Thessalonians 3:17)
Holy Spirit, thank you for your witness through Paul.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (2 Thessalonians 3:18 )
Lord Jesus Christ, we daily stand in need of your grace. Amen.

WORD: Look to me for comfort.
WORD: Come to me. Come into my arms. Let me comfort you with my love for you.
WORD: Come to me — I AM waiting for YOU.

      Notes from the Front Lines

***** Prayer Table ST. ANN’S OF AMSTERDAM (Monday, Dec. 8, 20-14, 10-11 a.m. in front of our church on Division Street. John Banfield, James Bryant and Deacon Alan presiding at His table today. It was one of the coldest mornings here for the table we can remember. It was 11 degrees at the start. We gave away nearly all of the used, clean clothing and quite a bit of non-perishable food we offer for free. Please continue to bring in your clean but excess or unwanted WARM clothing for our needy neighbors. There are so many of them. We can use clothing for both sexes and ALL ages. Also, we encourage you to bring in cans of soup, boxes of pasta, mac and cheese, tuna fish, etc.)
NOTE: About 25-30 persons came to the table; most of them also wanted prayer along with the free food and/or clothing. It was so cold my pen would not write! But these were the most vital prayer concerns that I remember. Please pray for these people all week. And please pray for our less-fortunate neighbors around us who are having a hard time making ends meet and getting through each day staying warm and having something to eat.

CONSUELA — This woman comes for prayer EVERY week. She is battling a serious illness. She comes with her home aide (MARIA) who accompanies her and ALSO gets a general prayer for protection, good health.

JIM — Sought prayer for continued healing of his heart. (He had operations in July and October.)

DONNA — FOr her husband JOE, who has heart problems.

REBECCA — She is having trouble with her leg and also her thyroid glands. Not resting very much during the night.

BIANCA — SHe says she is bothered by demons who will not leave her alone, but when she comes for prayer they stay away … for awhile. We prayed that the demons go to Jesus once and for all for binding and to do with as He will.

A good short video message on Advent: Canon Phil Ashey

December 13, 2014

A short 5 minute video reflection focused on the Advent Collect.  Canon Phil Ashey of the American Anglican Council focuses on how Advent challenges us to choose an identity firmly rooted in Christ:

Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious Majesty, to judge both the quick and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, now and ever. Amen.
