Music for Easter Monday – See what a morning (Resurrection Hymn)

I expect that like last year, much of whatever Easter devotional blogging I can find time to do will center around music.

Singing Easter hymns and worship songs throughout the 50 days of Easter is one of the best and easiest ways I know of to keep the joy of Easter alive and fresh  in our hearts.  Also as in 2014, I expect to post a variety of old hymns; modern worship songs and new hymns; and also Easter-focused songs by CCM artists such as Third Day, Casting Crowns, Andrew Peterson, Natalie Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, Twila Paris, etc.

You can find all our Easter Music entries here.  See also this index of Easter music entries (which I will try to update regularly).

This morning in our team’s morning prayer time, we sang “See What a Morning” (Resurrection Hymn) by Stuart Townend and Keith Getty.  The words are SO powerful!  I was especially struck by the lines about how Christ’s resurrection clothes our faith with certainty.  And also, the image of the Lord’s voice “speaking life, stirring hope, bringing peace to us,” – just as Jesus did on the road to Emmaus, with His two discouraged disciples.  As He spoke the Scriptures to them, their hearts burned within them, and when He revealed Himself to them, they were filled with joy and hope and ran to tell the other disciples…  May the Lord continually stir up and revive our hearts with the joy of the resurrection this Easter season!

You can read about the background to the hymn from the Getty’s website.

SEE WHAT A MORNING
Gloriously bright
With the dawning of hope in Jerusalem;
Folded the grave-clothes,
Tomb filled with light,
As the angels announce Christ is risen!
See God’s salvation plan, wrought in love,
Borne in pain, paid in sacrifice,
Fulfilled in Christ, the Man, for He lives:
Christ is risen from the dead!

See Mary weeping, ‘Where is He laid?’
As in sorrow she turns from the empty tomb;
Hears a voice speaking, calling her name;
It’s the Master, the Lord raised to life again!
The voice that spans the years,
Speaking life, stirring hope,
Bringing peace to us,
Will sound till He appears,
For He lives, Christ is risen from the dead!

One with the Father, Ancient of Days,
Through the Spirit
Who clothes faith with certainty,
Honour and blessing, glory and praise
To the King crowned
With power and authority!
And we are raised with Him,
Death is dead, love has won,
Christ has conquered;
And we shall reign with Him,
For He lives, Christ is risen from the dead!
