From Lectionary for 2015 11 27

Matthew 20:20-21
20Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him. 21And He said to her, “What do you wish?”She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.”

Holy Spirit, guide us in our prayers for our children and theirs. Help us discern your true will for them.

1 Peter 3:14
14But even if you should suffer for righteousness’sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”

Jesus, do not let fear stop me from following you to the end.

1 Peter 3:18
18For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,

Jesus, thank you for breaking into my life and pouring out your life-blood for me.

Psalm 140:4
4Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from violent men, Who have purposed to make my steps stumble.

Lord, in these days of violence and terrorism, help us keep our eyes fixed on you. You are our hope and our sure reward.
