Leading up to our national elections, I am looking at our nation’s roots in Philadelphia, PA.–JW
Most of the delegates to the second Continental Congress still considered themselves loyal to the crown, if not to Parliament. They adopted the “Olive Branch Petition,” expressing hope that the colonies could end their differences with the mother country.
When the Israelites arrived in the land, they set up the ancient wilderness tent shrine (the Tent of Meeting) in Shiloh. The Tent of Meeting remained there 369 years.
Shiloh means place of rest. The word Shiloh is also generally understood as denoting the Messiah, “the peaceful one.” Today, the community Shiloh is surrounded by farms and vineyards.
Jesus, You are “the peaceful one.” You are our place of rest. In You, we live and move and have our being. May the fruit of Your presence be abundantly manifest in the lives of the Christians in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Shalom over the Christians in this city, Lord. Glory to God in the highest, and in Philadelphia peace among those with whom He is pleased! Amen.
