Ramadan Resources – help in praying for and reaching out to Muslims

June 18, 2015

This post will remain at the top of the blog during Ramadan.  Look for new entries below.

30-days-2015Ramadan has started today for most Muslims around the world.  It is a month when even many non-devout Muslims devote themselves to greater prayer and study in hopes of earning God’s favor and drawing closer to him.

I invite all our readers to also pray earnestly in this month – to pray for spiritual awakening among Muslims.  That the eyes of their hearts would be opened to the truth of Jesus Christ and that their hearts would be softened to repent and choose to follow Him.  May the scales fall from their eyes, and may the lies of Islam that bind them be broken.

Pray too for Christians reaching out to Muslims during this month, for obedience, discernment, fruitfulness, and protection, as for Christians living in Muslim lands it can be an intense and very draining month.

Below are MANY great resources to help you pray for Muslims during this month.  I’ll update this from time to time as I find additional materials.

We’ll hope to post quite a lot of prayers for Muslims throughout Ramadan.  You’ll find all those entries with the Ramadan 2015 tag

For the conversion of Joppa, Israel

April 6, 2015

The Hellenist tradition links the name Joppa to Iopeia, or Cassiopeia, mother of Andromeda. An outcropping of rocks near the harbor is reputed to have been the place where Andromeda was rescued by Perseus.  In the Greek myth, she had been chained to a rock as a sacrifice to appease the sea monster Cetus.  The name Andromeda means ‘ruler of men.’

Our Father in heaven,

We declare that Christ Jesus is the Lamb of God who was slain for the sins of Joppa, Israel.

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”

Jesus is the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. We proclaim Christ Jesus as the Lord of lords and the King of kings in Joppa.  Oh, that the citizens of Joppa would be chosen and called and loyal and faithful followers.  Amen.

Revelation 1:5, 5:12, 17:14

For the conversion of Joppa, Israel

March 29, 2015

Joppa is an ancient port.  It was there that Peter opened the door to resurrection life for Tabitha. In Summit Park, the highest point of Joppa, are the excavated remains of a brick wall from an Egyptian fortress built by Ramses II. Ramses II is the “Pharaoh of the Exodus.”  I don’t know if there any iniquitous thrones remaining from that period of history, but I am using the ten plagues of Moses as one model for praying for this city.

Many Egyptian deities were associated with healing. In Egyptian mythology, Sekhmet was originally the warrior goddess as well as goddess of healing. Sekhmet also is a Solar deity, sometimes called the daughter of the sun god Ra.
Serapis was the god of healing, and Imhotep was the god of medicine and the guardian of the healing sciences. Isis was worshipped as the ideal mother and wife as well as the patroness of nature and magic.

Isaiah 61:1-3 (ESV)
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.

Our Father in heaven,
Moses threw soot into the air and the ashes became boils breaking out in sores on man and beast. So many times we have sinned in the by seeking remedies from idols, by not seeking our healing from You, and by not giving You glory when we are healed.
Isaiah gave instructions for a poultice of figs to heal King Hezekiah. We thank You for the natural remedies.
Jesus healed by His word and his touch. We thank You for supernatural healing.
We proclaim good news to the poor of Joppa, Israel . We declare that broken hearts shall be bound and that captives and prisoners shall be freed. This is the year of our Lord’s favor! He shall take vengeance against the false mindsets and demonic strongholds that have wreaked havoc in Joppa. The land of Israel shall be healed, and their people healed, by the Blood of the Lamb. Amen.

Hathor is an ancient Egyptian goddess who personified the principles of joy, feminine love, and motherhood. Hathor is commonly depicted as a cow goddess with horns in which is set a sun disk with a sacred serpent. In Egyptian mythology, Apis or Hapis is a bull-deity, a god of strength and fertility.

John 1:1-5 (ESV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Our Father in heaven,

We thank You for the Word of God, Christ Jesus, in whom is life and through whom all things were made. We proclaim the name of Christ Jesus over Joppa, Israel.

In Your plague upon the livestock of the Egyptians, You were passing judgment against the fertility gods Hathor and Apis. Triune God, You are the Tree of Life, Breath of Life, Lifeblood, Prime of Life, Light of Life, Path of Life, Wellspring of Life, Way of Life, Fountain of Life, Enjoyment of Life, Covenant of Life, Bread of Life, Author of Life, Spirit of Life, Fragrance of Life, Promise of Life, Gift of Life, Word of Life, Crown of Life, Water of Life, River of Life.

May all of Your holy names be celebrated in this ancient port. Amen.

2 Kings 1:2 (KJV)
And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.

Baalzebub–lord of the flies

Our Father in heaven,
Israel is a secular nation, a people of loyalties divided between the God of Israel and false gods.
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
They place their religious weight on a man-made lattice of ideologies.
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
The engineers of this lattice have rejected the chief corner stone. You have laid in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a costly corner stone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.
It is marvelous in our eyes. The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he. O Father, that the citizens of Joppa would not scoff at the Rock of their salvation!
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Just as the Israelites were spared the swarms of flies in the land of Goshen, spare Your children in Joppa. Let their lives be precious in Your sight. Amen.

Promised Land roofs and Gentiles–evangelism prayer

March 21, 2015

The drama of Gentiles entering into God’s covenant starts on a roof in Jericho–Rahab hides the Israeli spies and confesses , ” . . for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.” She was incorporated into the nation of Israel and, indeed, is listed in the genealogy of Jesus.
The drama builds over the millennia to a roof in Joppa–Peter receives a vision from God, who thrice says, “What God has made clean, do not call common.”

Joshua 2:6
But she had brought them up to the roof and hidden them under the stalks of flax which she had laid in order there.

Acts 10:9
The next day as they were still on their way and were approaching the town, Peter went up to the roof of the house to pray, about the sixth hour (noon).

Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
You are God in heaven above and on the earth below. We thank You that by going up higher, by going up on a roof, these men of Israel “spied” Your purposes and plans and ushered us Gentiles into Your blessed covenant. Holy is Your name and blessed are the children of Israel.
We thank You that we have been made clean by the sacrifice of Your Son Christ Jesus. Help us Gentiles in the Body of Christ to ascend higher that we, too, may usher others into Your kingdom. Amen.

Correction: Rahab was the first Gentile in the Promised Land to enter God’s covenant. The wives of Joseph and Moses would have come before her.

Lent prayer theme: Global intercession for the persecuted, for missionaries, unreached peoples… etc.

February 20, 2015

One of the themes in material we plan to post and Tweet here during Lent will be prayer for the persecuted church, missionaries, and for unreached peoples and nations.  We will also post resources for  “spiritual warfare” – praying for God to thwart religious violence and evil.   For those of you interested in such posts, you might want to bookmark our Global Intercession category.

Here are a few of our recent entries from that category:
