Music for Good Friday- John Michael Talbot- Prayer Before the Cross

April 3, 2015

One of my favorite worship songs – a musical prayer – just played in my Good Friday playlist.  I’m spending the evening listening to music focused on the Cross.  I thought I’d share this here since it’s from an older album that may not be so widely known or played these days.
Troubador

(John Michael Talbot,  from Troubadour of the Great King, 1981.  iTunes link)

We adore You, most holy Lord
Jesus Christ, Lord Jesus Christ
As we gather together in this place
And throughout all the world

We worship You, Lord
We adore you, Oh Lord
And we bless Your holy name
For by Your cross
You have redeemed us
You have redeemed all the world

Music for Lent: We Cry Out for Grace Again

March 28, 2014

Another “Musical Prayer” for Lent… a heartcry for more of God’s grace poured into our hearts and seen in our lives.

This song is We Cry Out for Grace Again, by Ed Kerr, from the 1997 Integrity Music worship album Because We Believe.

Visit us
We cry out for grace again
Come wash away our sin
Humble us
Give us grateful hearts
That You have called us
All Your friends
Let the blood of Jesus cleanse us
Make of us a spotless bride
Come visit us humble us
We cry out for grace again

Live in us
Let us be Your feet
Your hands to love
This dying world
Shine in us
Overcome the darkness
With Your holy light of love
Let the name of Jesus draw men
Just as we were drawn before
Lord live in us
Shine in us
Let us be Your feet Your hands

We believe
You are here to meet every need
We believe compassion will flow
From Your loving arms
We draw near
Confident our cries reach Your ear
You alone can help us obey
Everyday we live

Dwell in us
Manifest the glory of Your cross
And all You gave
Come to us
Let us see the mystery
Of God with us again
Thank You for this priceless treasure
Hidden in these jars of clay
Lord dwell in us
Come to us
Manifest Your glory
Live in us shine in us
Manifest Your glory
Visit us humble us
We cry out for grace again

Dwell in us come to us
Manifest Your glory
Live in us shine in us
Manifest Your glory
Visit us humble us
We cry out for grace again

Music for Lent – Deliver Me From Me

March 26, 2014

I found myself thinking of this song from Margaret Becker when I woke up this morning. It’s a good Lenten prayer, a heart-cry for deliverance and greater freedom in Christ.

I’m so aware of my sin and the weakness of my flesh right now. I’m so longing for the day when I will be blameless, spotless and pure to stand before the Father. Thanks be to God, through Christ’s sacrifice and God’s grace to me and through faith in Jesus, the Father sees Christ’s righteousness in me NOW! He no longer counts my sin against me. But I’m still all too aware of it, and cry out for deliverance and purification and greater freedom to die to myself and be transformed, to live as a new creation in Christ….

Anyway, here are the lyrics to the song:

I was just about to tell You
What I’m sure You already know
How my throat is tight with crying
Yet my soul is arctic blue

‘Cause I’ve seen some tears that didn’t move me
Whispered words I didn’t mean
Held back all my love for anger
Grown so weak in all these things
So in all these things

Deliver me from me
And deliver me to You
Come and set me free
Come and find me tried and true
Come on now
Deliver me from me

I was just about to run away
As far as far could go
When I recognized the cruelest captors
Living right inside my soul

And I can’t escape their endless movements
Cannot shed them like a skin
Can’t control all these emotions
Cannot live while they’re within
So in all these things

Bridge:  And now I’m falling, falling
‘Cause there’s nowhere else that I can go
Dreaming of Your arms of mercy
They are soft as the new winter snow

Deliver me from me
And deliver me to You
Come and set me free
Find me tried and true
Come on now, come on now
Deliver me, deliver me from me

The song is from Margaret Becker’s 1998 album Falling Forward

A Musical Prayer for a Lenten Monday Morning: Lord I Need You

March 17, 2014

I found today’s Lenten musical selection at my good friend BabyBlue’s blog :

It’s a great acoustic duet with Matt Maher and Audrey Assad of “Lord I Need You,” a song which was featured on the awesome 2011 Passion release “Here for You.”  I’ve liked this song since I first heard the Passion version (sung by Chris Tomlin), but this acoustic version really brings out the lyrics and turns the song into a true heartfelt confession of our need for Jesus and a passionate cry for more of Him.  A great way to start a Monday in Lent, or any day.

Here are the lyrics:

Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You’re the One that guides my heart

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus, You’re my hope and stay

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

You’re my one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
