A Prayer for Election Day (from Kendall Harmon in 2012)

November 4, 2014

Our good friend the Rev’d Kendall Harmon wrote and posted this prayer in 2012 .  It seemed good to repost it today.  – Thanks Kendall

Heavenly Father we ask that you will have mercy on America today and bless us in spite of ourselves. We ask that you will give wisdom to all who go to the polls to cast their votes. Help us as we make difficult decisions on a variety of issues and as we seek to elect men and women who will hunger for righteousness and seek the common good to positions of authority in our towns and cities, in our states and in our nation. We pray against any voter fraud or any corruption of proper voter access and ask that justice be done in each and every election, whatever the locale. We also pray for peace and grace with one another as the results are received and digested, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns in glory everlasting, Amen–KSH.

You can find prayers we’ve posted for the U.S. and past Election Day prayers here.

Prayers for Election Day

November 6, 2012

Just now getting online after a full and busy work day here in W. Africa. I’ve not had any time to do any blogging, or write any original prayer or reflection for Election Day, but here are a few links with prayers for the US and for today’s election.

Pastor Scotty Smith’s Heavenward Blog: A Prayer for Election Day  (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)  Here’s an excerpt:

On this Election Day, we bow to you and cast our votes. The brokenness in our country, hearts and world leads us to cry out, “How long, Oh, Lord? How long before you return, Lord Jesus, and finish making all things new?” Until that Day, we will seek to “Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.” (1 Pet. 2:7). We will seek to live as good citizens of two kingdoms—the city of man and the City of God. We will seek to adorn the gospel and serve you faith-fully, wherever you place us in the community and culture.

Whatever the results of this Presidential election, (as well as the many, many other offices which will be decided today), we affirm with renewed confidence and in-this-moment gratitude, that you, Lord Jesus, are the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Hallelujah, what a Savior; Hallelujah, what a salvation. And you shall reign for ever and ever! So very Amen we pray, in your loving and triumphant name.
