Prayer collections on Autism and Neurologic Disease

October 31, 2014

One of our primary blog contributors here at Lent & Beyond, Jill Woodliff, has a special concern (personal and professional) for Autism and Neurologic disorders. Over the years, she has written over a hundred prayers related to Autism and Neurologic Disease and injury.

I’ve created tags now to make it easier to find those prayer collections.

Neurologic Disease

Also, there is this menu of about 90 prayers for Neurologic Disease and healing (not all of these prayers are tagged yet).

James 5:16b-18 (GNT)
The prayer of a good person has a powerful effect. Elijah was the same kind of person as we are. He prayed earnestly that there would be no rain, and no rain fell on the land for three and a half years. Once again he prayed, and the sky poured out its rain and the earth produced its crops.

Father in heaven,
You created heaven and earth and all that is therein. There is no place on earth where Your glory cannot extend, even to the bodies, minds, and spirits of people who suffer from autism. We pray earnestly that these dear children of Yours, especially ____, will receive the fullness of Your glory.
We say to the elements within their nervous systems: Praise the Lord. Be glad. Tell the nations of the world that the Lord is king. Praise God for His glory. The Lord reigns. He is King of kings and Lord of lords. He reigns over all subatomic particles. He reigns over all chemical reactions. He reigns over all cells. He reigns over all connective tissues. He reigns over all neurotransmitters. His name is Jehovah-Shalom, the Prince of Peace, the Holy Comforter.
We speak peace to the central nervous systems of autistics, especially _____.
All chaos, be still!
Peace! Peace! Peace! Amen.

Neuropsychiatric illness

2 Kings 15:32-35 (AMP)
32 In the second year of Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel, Jotham son of Uzziah king of Judah became king.

33 When he was twenty-five years old, he began his reign of sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother was Jerusha daughter of Zadok.

34 He did right in the Lord’s sight, according to all his father Uzziah had done.

35 Yet the high places were not removed; the people sacrificed and burned incense still on the high places. He built the Upper Gate of the house of the Lord.

Jotham-Jehovah is upright
Uzziah-Yahweh is my strength
Jerusha-possession, or possessed; i.e., “by a husband”

Oh, Father, for Your righteousness and Your strength for ______. Oh, that she would be possessed by Christ, and Him alone.

The temple was built on Mount Moriah. Moriah means ordained/considered by God. In the Bible, the word Moriah is used only twice:
Genesis 22:2: “And He said: ‘Take now thy son, thine only son, whom thou lovest, even Isaac, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt-offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.'”

Dear Lord, Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide. And it is said to this day, On the mount of the Lord it will be provided. I thank You for Your provision in _____’s life.

2 Chronicles 3:1: “Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where [the LORD] appeared unto David his father; for which provision had been made in the Place of David, in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.”

Father, I fall upon my knees. I do not know if _______’s illness is due to the sins of her ancestors. What has she done? Spare her, I pray.

According to Josephus, the upper gate was built on “the Ophel,” a ridge lying between the Kidron and Tyropean valleys. (Diagram.)

Tyropoeon Valley is the name given by Josephus the historian (Wars 5.140) to the valley or rugged ravine, in the Old City of Jerusalem, which in ancient times separated Mount Moriah from Mount Zion and emptied into the valley of Hinnom. The Tyropoeon was spanned by bridges, the most noted of which was Zion Bridge, which was probably the ordinary means of communication between the royal palace on Mount Zion and the temple. The western wall of the Temple Mount rose up from the bottom of this valley to the height of 84 feet, where it was on a level with the area, and above this, and as a continuance of it, the wall of Solomon’s cloister rose to the height of about 50 feet, “so that this section of the wall would originally present to view a stupendous mass of masonry scarcely to be surpassed by any mural masonry in the world.” (Wikipedia)

Kings Asa, Josiah, and Hezekiah would pulverize the idols and idolatrous altars of Israel and throw the dust into the brook Kidron. It became the receptacle for all manner of impurities and the valley was the common cemetery of the city.

Assuming the accuracy of Josephus, the upper gate built by Jotham may have connected to the king’s palace on one side and overlooked a valley known for death and impurities on the other.

King Jesus, let our prayers for _____ be a bridge for Your entry into her mind, body, and spirit.
Oh, Carpenter of Nazareth, build a wall of unsurpassing masonry, a mural of salvation, around her mind.
Christ Jesus, we claim Your precious spilled blood over the upper gate into her mind. Amen.

Testimony–neurologic disease

April 15, 2013

In 2010, intercessors at Lent & Beyond cried out for great exploits in the healing of neurologic diseases. Of course, intercession from countless patients and their loved ones is unceasing. Great exploits in medicine are taking place:

Optogenetics research technique–started 2004, described 2005, ongoing
—Promising drug trials for Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy–described 2009, ongoing
Alzheimer’s vaccine trial–2012
CLARITY research technique–described 2013, promises to revolutionize neuropathology

On a spiritual level, I’ve witnessed remarkable improvements in the symptoms of one individual we prayed for, with Asperger’s syndrome, and I thank God for His miraculous mercy (Psalm 107). Another person we prayed for has asked Jesus to come into his life, and he has found forgiveness. I don’t know how the symptoms of his psychiatric illness are.

El Elyon, God Most High, we praise Your holy name and thank You for the great exploits You have done and are doing in the lives of patients with neuropsychiatric illnesses. Amen.

Ineffective prayers

May 9, 2012

All experienced intercessors run against situations or illnesses that are resistant to answered prayer. For example, on this blog, we have prayed for the healing of neuropsychiatric illnesses and for the healing of the Episcopal Church. I believe that our prayers have in some ways made a difference and may well continue to do so in the future, but the reality is that a comprehensive victory cannot yet be claimed.
I sincerely believe that Jesus desires complete healing. Scripture does not record a single instance where someone requested healing that he refused.
The greatest impediment is that, as intercessors, our holiness is lacking. Another impediment is that our understanding of spiritual things is lacking.
As I read the Bible, I search for clues on how to pray. Might it be the sequence of defeated enemies is significant? I don’t know. I’ll list some as food for thought.
Moses was a Levite, and Joshua from the tribe of Ephraim. Joshua 12 outlines their exploits. Moses conquered Sihon, king of Amorites and Og, king of Bashan. Joshua defeated the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites:

9 the king of Jericho one
the king of Ai (near Bethel ) one
10 the king of Jerusalem one
the king of Hebron one
11 the king of Jarmuth one
the king of Lachish one
12 the king of Eglon one
the king of Gezer one
13 the king of Debir one
the king of Geder one
14 the king of Hormah one
the king of Arad one
15 the king of Libnah one
the king of Adullam one
16 the king of Makkedah one
the king of Bethel one
17 the king of Tappuah one
the king of Hepher one
18 the king of Aphek one
the king of Lasharon one
19 the king of Madon one
the king of Hazor one
20 the king of Shimron Meron one
the king of Akshaph one
21 the king of Taanach one
the king of Megiddo one
22 the king of Kedesh one
the king of Jokneam in Carmel one
23 the king of Dor (in Naphoth Dor ) one
the king of Goyim in Gilgal one
24 the king of Tirzah one
thirty-one kings in all.

Then from the book of Judges:
–Othniel of the tribe of Judah defeated the Mesopotamians.
–Ehud of the tribe of Benjamin defeated the Moabites.
–Shamgar, whose origin is unknown, defeated the Philistines.
–Deborah of the tribe of Issachar defeated the Canaanites.
–Gideon of the tribe of Manasseh defeated the Midianites.
–Jephthah of the tribe of Manasseh defeated the Ammonites.
–Samson of the tribe of Dan defeated the Philistines.

Then the last judge to defeat an enemy was Samuel, a Levite. He defeated the Philistines.

As you see, the list is long.
God bless,

Neurological disease

January 1, 2012

Luke 2:21 (NKJV)
And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called JESUS, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

You are the Christ-child and the Redeemer of the world. You are the Lion of the tribe of Judah and the Lamb of God. You are the descendant of David and the Son of God. You are the bright morning star and the rose of Sharon. We proclaim Your holy name JESUS over _____________ (Joseph, Sally, Chris, Gaenor, Shelton, and Lauren). May this sweet, precious name permeate every membrane of every neuron and glial cell in their nervous system. May the name of JESUS be the ground substance of their brains, the warp and woof of their thoughts and actions. JESUS in every dimension, JESUS in every domain, JESUS in every fragment and particle. We call forth all that is disconnected, dislocated to be unified in JESUS, JESUS,JESUS. Amen.

Healing of neurologic disease

May 11, 2011

A while back, I did a series of prayers for the healing neurologic disease. My recent reading (The Effects of Trauma by Jim Banks and Come Up Higher by Paul Cox) has stirred some thoughts on this subject.

Jesus Christ, Carpenter of Nazareth and Builder of the Universe,
All things were created by You and for You–all things, in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible. My eyes do not discern the unseen realities. Yet I believe You have redeemed both the visible and the invisible.
Your body was broken, Your blood was shed, and in three days, You rebuilt the temple of Your body. The day of Your resurrection was the eighth day of creation!
Master Carpenter, by Your blood, cleanse all the contamination of the building blocks of my body, the chemical elements of the seen and unseen portions of my being. (Pause and repent of any personal or generational false assumptions or sins that the Holy Spirit brings to mind.)
I present my body as a living sacrifice to You. I renew my mind by turning away from the personal and generational sins and false assumptions that Your Holy Spirit has brought to my consciousness. You are the image of the invisible God, and You renew the face of the earth by sending forth Your Spirit.
Master Carpenter, by Your body, realign my spirit, soul, and body to the plumbline that extends from Your throne. Disconnect me from all evil forces, including principalities, powers, dominions, thrones, and rulers.
Release my body from the residual effects of personal or genrational trauma and sin.
Bless the tissues of my body to safely remove all wastes, toxins, poisons, or any other by-products of personal and generational trauma and sin.
Command all short-term and long-term effects of trauma and stress to leave.
Shut down all portals or markers that give Satan access to torment me. Cancel all assignments of generational spirits as a result of trauma and sin.
If there is any portion of my being that has been separated from me as a result of personal or generational trauma or sin, I ask You to remove all defilement, fear, or torment from that portion and re-integrate it into its proper place and maturity. Re-unify this portion with my core being.
Master Carpenter, reorder the chemical elements within my being and rebuild my neurologic system. Re-establish the appropriate connections between the left and right hemispheres. Re-establish restorative, regenerative patterns of sleeping and awakening. Dismantle all automatic responses gained as a result of trauma, poverty, or fear.
I thank You, Jesus, for dying to free every aspect of my being. In You I behold the Lamb of God, and I am blessed. Amen.

We recently had a series of prayers for the healing of neurologic disease. One prayer read

The secret things belong to You, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of Your law. Your children suffering from neurologic disease perish for lack of knowledge. Yet, Your Son Jesus taught us that it is Your good pleasure to give us the kingdom. . . .

The Journal of the American Medical Association recently reported new advances in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Praise be to God!

Gaenor is one of the patients on our prayer list for the healing of neurologic diseases. She had undergone surgery for an arteriovenous malformation. Following surgery, she had been unable to do anything.
Published with permission. Thank you for your prayers, dear intercessors.

Gaenor was discharged from the [rehabilitation center], returning to live at her home. She will continue as an outpatient for further therapy. She has an appointment with the neurosurgeon in April, when a decision will be made about treatment of what remains of the AVM in her brain.
She is now able to walk (slowly and carefully) by herself on level surfaces and can get around otherwise using a walker. Her speech and language continue to improve also. Her employer has been supportive and has given her a project to work on at home. The plan is in due course to gradually reintroduce her to office life.

Father, we thank You for her tremendous progress and humbly ask that You continue to make Your face shine upon her. Amen.

Epiphany on Epiphany

January 7, 2011

As our regular readers know, I’ve been writing a series of prayers on the healing of neurologic diseases. Several of the prayers have focused on Daniel 4, the account of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, insanity, and restoration. The purpose of these events is revealed in the dream:

Daniel 4:17 (New King James Version)
‘ This decision is by the decree of the watchers,
And the sentence by the word of the holy ones,
In order that the living may know
That the Most High rules in the kingdom of men,
Gives it to whomever He will,
And sets over it the lowest of men.’

Nebuchadnezzar’s restoration commences as he blesses El Elyon, God Most High.
This name for God was first revealed to Abram after he and his 318 men defeated four kings and armies. Afterward Melchizedek king of Salem and priest of God Most High (El Elyon) said

Genesis 14:19b-20a
“Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.”

Both stories involve the sovereignty of God over geopolitical kings. I had puzzled over the fact that the number of Abram’s men had been recorded. Was there significance to this? Abram and his 318 men make 319 warriors. Can the number be found elsewhere in scripture?
Let’s look at David’s tabernacle (1 Chronicles 25:1-26:19). David and the commanders of the army set apart some men for the work of prophesy and music. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were prophets (seers). Their sons led 24 praise teams of 12 persons each, assigned to the hours of the day. In addition, the temple gatekeepers had ministry duties. The named gatekeepers are Meshelemiah, Zechariah, Jediael, Zebadiah, Jathniel, Elam, Jehohanan, Eliehoenai, Obed-Edom, Shemaiah, Jehozabad, Joah, Sakar, Nethanel, Ammiel, Issachar, Peullethai, Othni, Rephael, Obed, Elzabad, Elihu, Semakiah, Hosah the Merarite, Shimri, Hilkiah, Tabaliah, Zechariah.
Three seers + 288 musicians + 28 gatekeepers= 319.
Again, there are geopolitical undertones. It was during David’s reign that the nation of Israel underwent an incredible expansion.
I went back to Daniel 4, looking for the number 319 and did not find it. Nebuchadnezzar’s dream followed on the heels of the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in chapter 3. What is verse 3:19?

Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. He spoke and commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.

El Elyon, Most High God,
We do know that You rule the kingdom of mankind and give it to whomever You will and set over it the humblest and lowliest of men. Amen.

Exaltation will come

January 6, 2011

Job 22:28-30 (New King James Version)
You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.
When they cast you down, and you say, ‘Exaltation will come!’
Then He will save the humble person. He will even deliver one who is not innocent; Yes, he will be delivered by the purity of your hands.”

The neurologic patients are cast down, but we declare exaltation will come for Joseph, Sally, Chris, Lauren, Gaenor, Mark, Samuel, Erin, Isabella, Christy, Nick, Alan, David, John, Brian, LaTosha, Danny, Jared, and Jonathan. Exaltation! Exaltation! Exaltation! Amen.

Body fluids

January 4, 2011

A friend shared this old account of St. Patrick from George H. Hunter’s The Celtic Way of Evangelism:

“They brought him a sick woman who was with child. He baptized the son in the mother’s womb, the amniotic fluid being the water of baptism. They buried her below the bank of the church enclosure.”

Patrick apparently believed that sacramental action could take place
in the natural fluids of the body.

Song of Solomon 5:12 (Amplified Bible)
His eyes are like doves beside the water brooks, bathed in milk and fitly set.

Your blood and tears were smeared from the Garden of Gethsemane to Golgotha, and water poured from Your pierced side. Your body fluids were the price for our redemption.
We are unworthy.
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
We are unworthy, for even after receiving You as our Lord and Savior, we, and our ancestors before us, have continued to sin. We ask Your forgiveness.
We ask Your forgiveness for persons suffering from neurologic and psychiatric disease, especially Joseph, Sally, Chris, Lauren, Gaenor, Mark, Samuel, Erin, Isabella, Christy, Nick, Alan, David, John, Brian, LaTosha, Danny, Jared, and Jonathan. We humbly request that Your healing waters cleanse any impurities of their spirits, souls, and bodies. We humbly ask for Your healing waters over their cerebrospinal fluid and neural tissues.
Jesus, You are our Divine Physician. Amen.

Dew is mentioned in the OT, but not the NT. In these readings, dew is a blessing, its absence a curse. In the Song of Solomon the dew fills the head of the male lover:

Song of Solomon 5:2 (Young’s Literal Translation)
I am sleeping, but my heart waketh: The sound of my beloved knocking! `Open to me, my sister, my friend, My dove, my perfect one, For my head is filled [with] dew, My locks [with] drops of the night.’

The dew dropped on the insane Nebuchadnezzar is enigmatic. In the context of the whole canon, I presume the dew dropped on Nebuchadnezzar was a blessing as well. He did recover from his insanity. Why particular ranks of angels, working together, are involved, I cannot say.–JW

–Isaac’s blessing of Jacob (Gen 27)
–With the manna from heaven (Ex 16, Num 11)
–Song of Moses (Deu 32)
–Jacob’s blessing of Joseph (Deu 33)
–Gideon puts out a fleece (Jud 6)
–David curses the mountains of Gilboa on the death of Saul and Jonathan (2 Samuel 1)
–Absalom plots the overthrow of David (2 Samuel 17)
–Elijah curses Israel (1 Kings 17)
–Job laments his past prosperity (Job 29)
–Jehovah challenges Job (Job 38)
–Messianic psalm (Ps 110)
–Song on unity of the saints (Ps 133)
–God’s wisdom (Pr 3)
–The king’s favor (Pr 19)
–The male lover’s head (SoS 5)
–The Lord’s rest (Is 18)
–A millenial song of the resurrection of the just (Is 26)
–A watcher and a holy one drop dew on the insane Nebuchadnezzar (Dan 4)
–God upbraids Ephraim and Judah’s lack of steadfastness (Hos 6,13)
–God’s blessing of Israel on repentance (Hos 14)
–Israel’s blessing to the people (Micah 5)
–God’s judgment against Judah (Hag 1)

El Elyon, God Most High,
We honor and glorify You who lives forever. Your dominion is an eternal dominion; Your kingdom endures from generation to generation. All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. You do as You please with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back Your hand or say to You: “What have You done?”
We don’t understand why some people are afflicted with neurologic and psychiatric diseases and some are not. We rend our hearts before You. We have perpetuated many iniquities and broken covenants. We have broken Your holy laws, and there is no health in us
Have mercy, Lord. Have mercy. You are gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Take pity and relent from sending calamity upon those who suffer from neurologic and psychiatric disease.
Do not make Your inheritance an object of scorn. Spare Your children.
We humbly ask You to commission Your watchers and Your holy ones to spread the dew of Your heavenly blessing over Joseph, Sally, Chris, Lauren, Gaenor, Mark, Samuel, Erin, Isabella, Christy, Nick, Alan, David, John, Brian, LaTosha, Danny, Jared, and Jonathan. Amen.

O Burning Babe

December 25, 2010

O burning babe in Bethlehem, whose faultless heart the furnace is, spread Your fire of love to Joseph, Sally, Chris, Lauren, Gaenor, Mark, Samuel, Erin, Isabella, Christy, Nick, Alan, David, John, Brian, LaTosha, Danny, Jared, Jonathan, and all those who suffer from neurologic disease and brain injury.
Burn away the thorns of rejection. May Your mercy, like a bellows, blow the coals within Your heart and send the life-charging, life-changing, life-shaping wind of the Holy Spirit into theirs. Amen.
