This was composed looking at a stained glass window of Jesus before Pontius Pilate.

Christ Jesus,
Oh, the magnitude of meekness! Bruised and scourged, You suffered for our transgressions, indeed for the transgressions of Yemen. The cross, the cords, the nails, the spear, the myrrh, the gall, the vinegar were endured for this land. You who knew no sin were made to be sin for us all and for the people of Yemen. May Yemen be made the righteousness of God in You. Amen.
2 Corinthians 5:11

A video of Yemeni praise music is here.

You rule in heaven and laugh at the futile plans of Your enemies. You scoff at them because everything serves Your plans. You even redeemed the world through the crucifixion of Your Son.
We give to You the disrupted governance of Yemen. Take it, Father, and work it for the good of those who love You, who have been called according to Your purpose. Use anything that might have been intended for harm for the saving of many souls.
We lean on You, Lord, and not on our own understanding. Amen.
Genesis 50:20, Romans 8:28, Acts 2:22-23, Psalm 2:4

Jehovah Sabaoth, O Lord of hosts,
The Christians in Yemen testify that You are their Maker. You are their Husband. O Holy One of Israel, You are their Redeemer. You are God of the whole earth.
They have been forsaken and grieved in spirit. Call them, Lord. Take away their fear. They shall not be ashamed. Neither will they be confounded or depressed. In You they live and move and have their being. Amen.
Isaiah 54:4-6, Acts 17:28

O God in heaven,
Look at all the government leaders in Yemen that deny You and defy the Messiah. They try to shut Jesus out of Yemen, and they devise mean plots against the Christians.
You laugh at them in derision.
Your sons and daughters in Yemen are Your heirs, and joint-heirs with Christ Jesus. You bless their obedience.
We ask You, Lord, for their inheritance. We ask You to bless those who hearken to Your voice–overtake them with blessings. Bless their land. Bless the spiritual realm over the land. Bless the soil and the water. Bless their families. Bless their businesses. Bless them with long life, we pray. Amen.
Psalm 2 MSG, Romans 8:15-17, Deuteronomy 28:1-2

Our Father in heaven,
The words of the Christian scripture read in Yemen are living and active. You shall send forth Your word, and it shall accomplish Your purpose. Jesus Christ, the Word Incarnate, is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We stand in agreement with all the words of Christian scripture spoken in Yemen through the ages. Yes! Yes! Yes!

Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise from the ends of the earth,
you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it,
you islands of the Yemen, and all who live in them.
Let the wilderness and its towns raise their voices;
let the settlements rejoice.
Let the people of Jesus sing for joy;
let them shout from the mountaintops.
Let them give glory to the Lord
and proclaim his praise in the islands.
The Lord will march out like a champion,
like a warrior he will stir up his zeal;
with a shout he will raise the battle cry
and will triumph over his enemies.
His name is above every name on the Socotra Archipelago, Abd al Kuri, Jabal al-Tair Island, Kamaran, Saso Island, Zubair Group, and Zuqar Island. At His name, every knee shall bow in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.
Sing to the Lord a new song.

From USA Today: Mountains in Yemen number 179, making the country one of the most mountainous regions on the Arabian Peninsula in a relatively confined area of 214,000 square miles. Peaks range from as low as about 1,640 feet to as high as more than 10,000 feet. Many peaks are home to villages carved out in rock.

Sing, O heavens, and joy, O earth! Sarawat Mountains, Western Highlands, Central Highlands, Haraz Mountains, Jebel Al-Lawz, Jabal Al-Qullah, Jabal Shakhab Ammar, Jabal ’Ayban, Jabal Rihab, Jabal Kanwab, Jabal an-Nabi Shu’ayb –break forth into song! Encompass Yemen with praise for the Lord has comforted His people and will have compassion upon His afflicted. Rejoice! We say, Rejoice!
Isaiah 49:13

This 12-minute video documents the perilous use of children to smuggle qat and food across the border between Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

The angels look upon Your glory. In adoration we bow down before You and say, Holy is the Lord God of hosts. Holy is His name. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord.
Commission Your holy angels and let Your glory come near to the suffering children in Yemen. Amen.
Matthew 18:10

Our Father in heaven,
Oh, for the children of Yemen! Smeared and shrugged at, hungry and desolate, the pawns of political violence. Do not let the little ones be abandoned. Keep them safe, we implore You. Amen.

Christ Jesus,
You said, “Let the children come to me.” We lift up the prayers of the children of Yemen as an invitation. Go to those children, place Your hands on their heads, and bless them. They give You their trust; grant them Your blessings in good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. Let none be lost. Amen.
Matthew 19:14, Luke 6:38

Father in heaven, You cannot forget Your children in Yemen. Their names are written on the palms of Your hands. Your strong arm is not foreshortened.
Isaiah 49:16

Cheating in Yemen

August 4, 2013

Cheating is rampant in Yemen exam centers.

Proverbs 23:12,26 (ESV)
Apply your heart to instruction
and your ear to words of knowledge.
My son, give me your heart,
and let your eyes observe my ways.

Father, we pray that the students in Yemen would give You their hearts, delight in Your ways, and do their best to present themselves to You as approved, workers who have no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. Amen.
2 Timothy 2:15

Yemen–Al Qaeda

August 3, 2013

From a 2012 New York Times article:

The government is deeply unpopular in the remote provinces where Al Qaeda militants have sought sanctuary. The tribes there tend to regularly switch sides, making it difficult to depend on them for information about Al Qaeda. “My state is anyone who fills my pocket with money,” goes one old tribal motto.

Psalm 83:13 (NIV)
Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind.

Pursue the Al Qaeda militants with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind. Amen.
