Luke 1:69-79

Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people, (Luke 1:68)
Jesus, thank you for doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, (Luke 1:69)
Father, your kindness is so great: please carry us through to your victory in the church.

As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, who have been since the world began, (Luke 1:70)
Holy Spirit, thank you for the many witnesses you have raised up for your people. Thank you for the steady witness of your prophets speaking through the Bible.

That we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us, (Luke 1:71)
Jesus, please save and deliver us from the hand of all who reject your word. Guide Bishop Bill as he leads us in this time of turmoil in the church. Pour out your blessing on St. Andrews Syracuse, St. Andrews Vestal, and the Diocese of San Joaquin. Bless and guide the ministry of Bishop Dave in CANA.

To perform the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, (Luke 1:72)
Father, thank you for the covenant which you have established through your son Jesus which includes us who are Gentiles.

The oath which he swore to our father Abraham: (Luke 1:73)
Jesus, I pray for all the children of Abraham, for all the children of promise: please bring the children is Israel and of Ishmael to a saving knowledge of you.

To grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, (Luke 1:74)
Holy Spirit, please help us walk in the love of Jesus, for his love is perfect and casts out fear.

In holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life. (Luke 1:75)
Holy Spirit, please move through this diocese and help us all heed the call to the devout and holy life. Thank you for the witness of the Daughters of the King and the Sisters of St. Mary. Please raise up vocations for them.

And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways, (Luke 1:76)
Thank you for the witness of John and his call to repent of our sins. Holy Spirit, please help us heed that call this Advent season.

To give knowledge of salvation to his people by the remission of their sins, (Luke 1:77)
Jesus, please bring the leaders and teachers of the Episcopal Church to a saving knowledge of you for the remission of their sins.

Through the tender mercy of our God, with which the Dayspring from on high £has visited us; (Luke 1:78)
Father, thank you for your tender mercy toward us in sending Jesus to be the light to direct our footsteps into the kingdom of heaven.

To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. (Luke 1:79)
Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this day, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.

Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

A word received: Be still, be still before me and know that I AM God. Be still, calm your hearts; put away your fears. I AM God. Look to me; turn your heart to me; I AM your provider.
