Luke 10:1-9

July 4, 2010

After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before his face into every city and place where he himself was about to go. (Luke 10:1)
Lord, send your people out two by two into the streets of Schenectady or wherever they live. Help us prepare the way before you.

Then he said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” (Luke 10:2)
Father, the harvest fields belong to you; please send out laborers into your harvest fields. Bust them out of the pews and into the streets.

“Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.” (Luke 10:3)
Holy Spirit, there are people with guns and other things out there, but I trust you will guide us through any danger.

“Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road.” (Luke 10:4)
Jesus, please keep us from getting side-tracked by what others think or say, and trust that you will provide whatever is needed as we go. You have been faithful in doing that all these years.

“But whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you.” (Luke 10:5-6)
Jesus, please help us truly minister your peace.

“And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.” (Luke 10:7)
LORD, help us daily take up your whole armor that we may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all, to stand. (See Ephesians 6:13)

“Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you.” (Luke 10:8 )
Holy Spirit, help us receive with thankfulness and blessing whatever is set before us in life.

“And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.'” (Luke 10:9)
Jesus, please help us faithfully proclaim your kingdom and heal the sick.

A word received at Christ Church: Today is glorious. Bring it to me. Bring me praise. Tomorrow you may be taken advantage of or misunderstood. Bring it to me. Lay it down at my cross and leave it there. Let go of it.
      Bring to me your tears
      Bring to me your joy
      Bring to me your sorrows
      Bring to me your laughter
      Bring to me your hurts
      your children
      your family
      your enemy
      your friends
      your time
Bring everything to me first. I want to be first in your lives. Teach this to each other. Teach this to your children.
