Galatians 1:3-10

June 2, 2008

Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, (Galatians 1:3)
Dear Father and Jesus, please help us receive your grace and peace today. Bless Bishop Bill and all those who are doing the preparation work for the Diocesan Convention with your grace and peace. Thank you.

who gave himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, (Galatians 1:4)
Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice on the cross so that we could be delivered from sin and death and the temptations of this present age.

to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. (Galatians 1:5)
Holy Spirit, please help us bring Jesus all the glory that is rightfully his.

I marvel that you are turning away so soon from him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, (Galatians 1:6)
Lord Jesus, so many in the Episcopal Church have turned away from the gospel of grace to a gospel of works and sin; have mercy on them and bring them back to you.

which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. (Galatians 1:7)
Father, close our ears to all who pervert the gospel of Christ and say that evil is good.

But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:8 )
LORD, so many are under condemnation, but even now draw them back to you.

As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:9)
Holy Spirit, purify all the preaching in this diocese and at the Diocesan Convention. Let every speaker bring you glory and honor.

For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10)
Father, please help us in all things that we speak and do to honor you rather than the wisdom of this age. Thank you.

A word received: Put your trust/hope in me. I will do what you cannot.

Pray for good weather at the Diocesan Convention.

Subject: a message of encouragement from Fr Nigel
Dear Friend,
Acts 13:15 writes, if you have a message of encouragement you are to declare it. Here follows a message of encouragement:
I have just returned from Charleston South Carolina. I was there last year and prayed for a man who had cooked a meal for a large group. He had dropped a turkey into a portable fryer, a large quantity of the hot liquid fat split on his leg and burnt it very badly. I remember going to his house last year and praying for him. He was not in a good place. He was miserable and in a lot of pain. The very next day he went to a plastic surgeon to prepare for a skin graft. They were going to take a lot of skin off his rear end. The surgeon looked at his leg, looked at the charts, he looked at his leg, looked at the charts, again he looked at his leg, looked at the charts, he then said are you _________ (he then said his name) At this point he thought he had the wrong patient. (actually the way the former patient told this part of the story was very funny…)
He looked at his leg and said “What happened”… He told him about the prayer. The surgeon said, “It worked, you don’t need surgery.”
I looked at that leg last week. There is no evidence of scaring what so ever… he is amazed, the surgeon is amazed, I am amazed… G¦ God is so good… (all the time)…
All the Glory goes to God… I just thought you might like to be encouraged today….
Be well, do good works and for the sake of God love one another… Fr. Nigel+

House of Bishops

June 2, 2008

The House of Bishops convenes at Kanuga on June 3-4. Several variations of St. Patrick’s breastplate, adapted for them, are found here. I think it a good idea to pray this daily through the meeting. Thanks, intercessors.
