Psalm 85:4-10

June 19, 2008

Restore us, O God of our salvation, and cause your anger toward us to cease. (Psalm 85:4)
LORD, in your mercy restore the Episcopal Church and cause your anger toward us to cease.

Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger to all generations? (Psalm 85:5)
Father, we have provoked you and despised your word to us; have mercy on us and restore the Episcopal Church.

Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? (Psalm 85:6)
Jesus, on the day of Pentecost you visited a sinful people who had killed you; please come and visit the Episcopal Church with your Holy Spirit.

Show us your mercy, LORD, and grant us your salvation. (Psalm 85:7)
Holy Spirit, in your mercy come upon us in the Episcopal Church.

I will hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people and to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly. (Psalm 85:8 )
LORD, we have turned away from you toward folly: the last couple of General Conventions have held your word in contempt and done what was right in their sight and not in yours.

Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land. (Psalm 85:9)
Holy Father, let your mercy and truth meet once again in the Episcopal Church and let your righteousness and peace be embraced. Thank you. (From Psalm 85:10)

GAFCON begins June 22

June 19, 2008

We pray for those making their way to Jerusalem this day.

Psalm 34: 1-9

I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and be glad.

O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the LORD, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Look to him, and be radiant; so your faces shall never be ashamed.

This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

O taste and see that the LORD is good! Happy is the man who takes refuge in him!

O fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no want!

Father in Heaven,

We stake ourselves and all we have on your promise that your guardian angels shall surround us and protect us from evil.  We cry to you to save us from all our troubles.  We pray this day for those pilgrims on their way to your most holy city.  Keep them in the palm of your hand, Father.  Guard them as the apple of your eye.  May their travels be safe, comfortable, timely, and uneventful.  May they be protected from the normal stresses of traveling.  May they not be afflicted with jet lag, but rather arrive refreshed and joyful and immediately prepared to serve you.  Be with them, Father, in their going out and their coming in.  Bless them mightily.

We offer up this prayer through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  Blessed be his name.  All honor, power, and glory are yours, Father, now and forever.  Amen.
