      PRAYER TABLE REPORT — II

(In front of Schenectady Inner City Ministry building, Albany St.; Manned by Deacon Alan Hart plus visitors David and Anita from Cooperstown, 9:30-10:30 a.m. on 6-21-08.)

a– indicates anointed with Holy Oil
t — indicates received one of Torre’s crosses

Note: This started rather slowly but really picked up steam as the hour went along. There was a decided theme of people on the streets wanting things to “be better” and “more safe.”

t-EDWARD — Came right over from across the street just as we set up the Table. Asked for prayers for “fulfillment in his life.”
MILLIE — Wanted prayers for “better life and for direction.”
Man on other side of Albany Street waved at us happily and shouted to us, “Praise the Lord!”
t, t — NATASHA — She told a very scary story about how she is being repeatedly beaten by her ex-husband, who is of a different race. Natasha is Guyanese, and her family has had little to do with her since she married this man against their wishes. She told us her “ex” had beaten her again last night and threw her cellphone onto the floor and broke it when she tried to call for help. We prayed for her for the Lord’s protection and provision, and David also gave her stern advice to go to police about this man. She answered that she has had him jailed before and he gets even more violent afterward when he is released. She is scared of him. She has an order of protection but he is not honoring it. She also told us she is beginning to get back in a better relationship with her Mom, who WAS a Hindu but is now going to various Christian churches up and down ther neighborhood. We prayed a second time for her for God to guide her and keep her safe. She took a cross for herself and for her mother.
t-ARNETTE — (Stood at the Table while David was still talking to Natasha and advising her to seek police help.) Arnette is a very pregnant young woman; asked for protection for herself and her baby. She told us she ” … just lost her man” and is worried. We prayed for protection for her and for safe delivery of her child and for provision for both of them.
t-IRVING — He smiled and assured us “Things are not THAT bad” but he wanted prayers for things to get better in his life. Prayed that the Lord would show him signs today that Jesus is working in his life.
t,t,t,t,t — JENNA (mother), a-DELILIAH (celebrating her 3rd birthday) and PEGGY (roomate) — Jenna wanted prayers that her family (5 children) would get the new house they are seeking. They are currently in an apartment which the landlord is selling. We also prayed for Peggy to come to know Lord in a more powerful way. Delilah was anointed for protection and to come to know God’s love for her and someday soon walk in His ways.
t-GENE — Gene was a real hoot and holler! He was driving East and saw the Prayer Table, pulled over and gleefully ran up to us from across the street and kept yelling out loud, “Bless you, bless you, bless you!” Gene is a member of Calvary Tabernacle. He asked for prayers that he would ” … learn to listen more to my wife and my daughter!” and also asked us to pray for a reduction of crime and trouble in the Neighborhood.
t-DANIEL — Wanted prayers for wisdom and discernment about whether to continue to live in Schenectady or go back home to New York City. Thanked us profusely for being “out here” for people.
t-JEFF — very sad and brave case. He stood away from us awhile and finally decided to come over. He did not sit but leaned on the table and put his head down in an ashamed manner. He said he wanted prayers for “me and my family to get it right.” He said his car was broken down and he could not afford to get it fixed and has not been able to pay his rent. We prayed for him to get provision from the Lord somehow to meet his financial obligations, we prayed for him to not be a prisoner to fear because Christ will stand by him. We thought he was very brave to come forward for prayers.
t-LAQUITA — Came to us just as we were getting set to leave and taking down the Table. She wanted prayers for her “living situation.”

      PRAYER TABLE REPORT — III
(In front of St. Andrew’s Church, Scotia; Deacon Mary Carol Hart from 9:50 a.m. to 11 a.m.)

It was exciting to “kick off” our prayer table at St. Andrews this morning. I spoke to several people walking by, and they declined prayer. There were lots of stares from passing motorists, and one man (a Red Sox fan) crossed the street and then re-crossed a little way down the road. Guess he really did not want prayer, but I shot off a long-distance prayer for him anyway. A man named Ted walked by with his next-door neighbor, John. Ted is well-acquainted with the parish and is being treated for cancer. Prayers for strength, healing, and patience were said for him. Not a bad start.

GAFCON

June 21, 2008

We pray for those faithful Anglican leaders who are gathering in Jerusalem for the GAFCON conference, which begins tomorrow.

Psalm 136: 1-9

O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures for ever.

O give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures for ever.

O give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures for ever;

to him who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures for ever;

to him who by understanding made the heavens, for his steadfast love endures for ever;

to him who spread out the earth upon the waters, for his steadfast love endures for ever;

to him who made the great lights, for his steadfast love endures for ever;

the sun to rule over the day, for his steadfast love endures for ever;

the moon and stars to rule over the night, for his steadfast love endures for ever.

Father of night and day, Father of sun and moon, Father of earth and water, our Lord, our King, our Redeemer, our Only Hope, we give you thanks, we give you praise, we sing the glory of your name!  Be with your faithful Anglican children in Jerusalem, Father.  Grant them strength and courage and humility and love.  May all that they do redound to your honor and glory.  May your will be done.

Abba, Father, send your Spirit!

Glory Jesus Christ!

Amen.

Matthew 19:3-12

June 21, 2008

The Pharisees also came to him, testing him, and saying to him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?” (Matthew 19:3)
      Jesus, the leaders and teachers of the Episcopal Church are still testing you on this.

And he answered and said to them, “Have you not read that he who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” (Matthew 19:4-6)
      Jesus, please restore this teaching to the life of the Episcopal Church.

They said to him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?” He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. (Matthew 19:7-8 )
      Jesus, the real issue is the hardness of our hearts in the Episcopal Church. Have mercy on us and soften our hearts by your Holy Spirit.

And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.” (Matthew 19:9)
      LORD, the Episcopal Church and the surrounding culture are wandering around in the Desert of Sin; we are lost in a wilderness of sin. Please bring us back to a place of refreshment and restoration in your Holy Spirit — to a place of Elim Springs. (See Exodus 15:27-16:1)

His disciples said to him, “If such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry.” But he said to them, “All cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given: For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother’s womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.” (Matthew 19:10-12)
      Holy Father, we pray that you will give all those who are not called to marriage the gift of celibacy and abstinence. Restore to your people the desire and the ability to receive and live by your teaching. Thank you.

Saturday: 136; Numbers 13:31-14:25; Romans 3:9-20; Matthew 19:1-12
Sunday: 19, 46; Numbers 14:26-45; Acts 15:1-12; Luke 12:49-56

      Notes from the Front Line

Subject: Diocesan Update
June 20, 2008
      Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
      In just a few hours I will be leaving for the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) which takes place in Israel the 22nd through the 29th of June. After that I will be heading to Ireland for a wedding and onto Scotland en route to England for the Lambeth Conference taking place July 16th through August 4.
      Before leaving I wanted to thank once again all those who helped organize and lead this year’s Diocesan Convention, all who attended and everyone who was holding it up in prayer. It was wonderful to be with so many of you from around the Diocese. As I mentioned in my address Friday night, I am greatly appreciative of the sacrifices, both financially and of time, everyone made in order to attend Convention. It is an honor to serve our Lord and His Church with each of you.
      I also want to extend a special thank you to all the clergy and deputies who handled the difficult issues we were confronted with in such a Christlike manner, treating one other with dignity and respect.
       Please keep my travel in your prayers and I look forward to being with you all again when I return from Lambeth. If you should need to contact me for any reason while I’m away, please contact Canon Bob Haskell or Canon Jerry Carroll at the Diocesan Office. I will be in touch with them on a regular basis. God Bless You!
Yours in Christ, +Bill
