Luke 12:32, Convention and Prayer Table Reports

June 8, 2008

“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)
Father, thank you for the things that give you pleasure.

A word received: Don’t be afraid.

“Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.” (Luke 12:33)
Jesus, help us move into the full freedom you have for the children of God.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:34)
Holy Spirit, we treasure what you are doing among us in this diocese. Thank you.

      Notes from the Front Line

Thank you all for your prayers for the Diocesan Convention of the Diocese of Albany. It began Friday noon and ended shortly after noon today, Sunday up at Camp of the Woods in the Adirondacks. It was marked by VERY powerful, gospel-based evangelical preaching, testimony and teaching by Bishop Bill Love, Archbishop Ben and Gloria Kwashi of Jos, Nigeria, and Bishop Harold Miller of the Diocese of Down and Dromore, Northern Ireland. In addition there was anointed and powerful preaching and teaching and testimony on the healing ministry of the church by Dr. Russ Parker of Acorn Ministries in the UK and Fr. Nigel Mumford of the Diocese of Albany. The healing service last night was attended by at least 400-500 people and lasted about three hours.
The two proposed canons on marriage and the licensing of clergy were passed overwhelmingly. The canon on marriage forbids any blessing of same-sex unions by any clergy licensed in the Diocese of Albany or the use of church property for such an activity, and the canon on the licensing of clergy requires that all candidates for licensing or ordination in the diocese by either in a one-man-one-woman marriage or be celibate.
All of the debate was marked by a clear determination to assume the best in others opinions. The convention followed Bishop Bill’s admonition that there be no partisan clapping or demonstration of support or opposition.
