Numbers 16:46-48 and Psalm 119:126-127,132-136

June 25, 2008

So Moses said to Aaron, “Take a censer and put fire in it from the altar, put incense on it, and take it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from the LORD. The plague has begun.” (Numbers 16:46)
LORD, please help us respond quickly to your instructions as Aaron did to Moses. Thank you that the blood of Jesus is the atonement for the sins of your people.

Then Aaron took it as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and already the plague had begun among the people. So he put in the incense and made atonement for the people. (Numbers 16:47)
Jesus, our prayers are incense that come before you (Revelation 5:8, 8:4); help us come into the midst of our congregations with our prayers so that all the people are brought to your atoning sacrifice for us.

And he stood between the dead and the living; so the plague was stopped. (Numbers 16:48 )
Father, a plague of heresy and misuse of power has broken out in the Episcopal Church; help us by our prayers to stand between the dead and the living so that this plague is stopped.

It is time for you to act, O LORD, for they have regarded your law as void. (Psalm 119:126)
LORD, we are your servants, give us understanding so that we may know your testimonies. (From Psalm 119:125)

Therefore I love your commandments more than gold, yes, than fine gold! (Psalm 119:127)
Holy Spirit, help us love what you command and shun every false way. Thank you.

Torre,
How about a prayer vigil sign-up for October 4 to keep Bp Bill bathed in prayer continuously for the duration of the Lambeth Reflections Conference?
Harvey

Look upon me and be merciful to me, as your custom is toward those who love your name. (Psalm 119:132)
Jesus, look upon Bishop Bill and be merciful to him and his family for he loves your name.

Direct my steps by your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me. (Psalm 119:133)
Holy Spirit, direct Bishop Bill’s steps by your word and let no iniquity have dominion over him.

Redeem me from the oppression of man, that I may keep your precepts. (Psalm 119:134)
Father, protect Bishop Bill and set him free from the oppression of man so that he may cleave to your ways. Make your face shine upon your servant, and teach him your statutes. (From Psalm 119:135)

Rivers of water run down from my eyes, because men do not keep your law. (Psalm 119:136)
LORD, we grieve for those who have walked away from your teaching, bring them back to you. Thank you.

***** Please commit to daily intercession for Bishop Bill and his family (Karen, Christopher, and Catie) from now through the Reflections Conference October 4th.

***** A very interesting blog for you to check out is “Openly Episcopal in Albany” run by John White, http://drbones.typepad.com/openly_episcopal_in_alban/ It is one of the very few blogs (actually the only one) that I have encountered that cheerfully lets both liberals and conservatives in the Episcopal Church speak.

***** Please pray for Jean Bissell, she will be having corrective surgery on her hip on Friday.

We pray for our leaders in Jerusalem.

Romans 4: 20-25

No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. That is why his faith was “reckoned to him as righteousness.” But the words, “it was reckoned to him,” were written not for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be reckoned to us who believe in him that raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was put to death for our trespasses and raised for our justification.

Father, you have promised that the Church militant shall become the Church triumphant.  We believe you will keep your promise.

Father, you have promised eternal life to those who confess that Jesus is Lord and King.  We believe you will keep your promise.

Father, you have promised that the body and blood of Christ will cleanse us of all sin.  We believe you will keep your promise.

Father, you have promised us a place at the feast celebrating the wedding of King Jesus and his church if we will repent of our sins and return to you with contrite hearts.  We believe you will keep your promise.

Father, strengthen yet more the faith of our brothers and sisters who have made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.  Kindle their hearts with the fire of your Holy Spirit.  Come to their meeting, Father.  Bless them for the work you have called them to do.  Revive your church, Father.  Sweep through your church with  a revival of faith.  Set us free Father.  Set us free to worship you and to seek your honor and glory.     Amen.

We open ourselves to live
Your Life amongst others
With generosity and courage.
